I've been loving a bogner blue lately. Just seems to help kick the amp into hyperdrive Are you using the Blue pedal more for volume boost or are you getting your drive with it? I've got both the blue and the red pedals, and both of them got bumped off my board with a Blackbird SR-71 drive/preamp.

I've got both the blue and the red pedals, and both of them got bumped off my board with a Blackbird SR-71 drive/preamp. Keep in mind I'm blues, jazz and classic rock kind of guy. No more gain than basic ac/dc tones if that. I use the blue more to send an amp over the edge. It sounds very good as an OD by itself; but once it starts interacting with the amps natural tube sound? Heaven. Slight volume boost, slight grit and an amp setup for edge of break tones gives me two channels to work with haha. It also works set clean to help eq my Marshall class 5. The maz made me realize what a mud bucket that amp is lol. I really enjoy the blue too on my mesa lonestar classic. Again, just adds to the harmonic content of what the amp is already providing.

Which overdrive pedals are you using with your Maz 18? Low Gain, High Gain, Rhythm Or Lead, or all of the above. I like the OCD, earthquaker palisades and hoof, and check out Vick audio. The Rams head and tree of magic are fun.

Usually a JHS Double Barrel - with the MAZ running hot, the two sides of the double barrel push it over the edge in two different and awesome ways!

I'm using a Bogner Burnley and a Ramble fx Marvel drive. Love them both. To my ears a lot of pedals get fizzy with the Maz if you get the cut above 9:00 and I feel the clean tone suffers when I drop it that low for my taste. The burnley is a darker sounding pedal almost like it was designed to work with bright amps. Huge and thick tones and amp like feel. The Marvel drive has that whole "feel" thing going as well but sounds like a plexi, bright and cutting but not harsh due the the presence control on the pedals.

My favorite dirt section through the Maz18 remains a Super Chili Picoso pushing a Boiling Point. If I want a purely touch sensitive low-gain, I toss a Fairfield Barbershop in the mix. The Boiling Point gets as heavy as I ever need, but I could easily swap a Gain Changer in its place and get the same thing I want with a little more warmth.
Out of curiosity, has anyone tried a Wampler Catapulp through one?

I've found there isn't anything that doesn't work well with my Maz Jr NR - essentially just boils down to your tonal/drive preferences.
Currently I'm using a few different JHS pedals, and a Barber Gain Changer.

strat-Astrotone-POT is probably my go-to fav. Into a Fulltone TTE on the way to the low input.
The Boiling Point is fantastic sounding, and Skreddy has me super-impressed. Can't go wrong with the Beano Boost, either.
The Klon is so good I need 2 so I can quit carrying it around for different amps...have I mentioned the EP Booster?
I really want to try Barber, Strymon and the Z-Drive.
A new pedal I've been experimenting with is the HBE Germania(Treble Booster), and it's nice if a bit raw. Lots of different tones though, way more than your average od pedal.

I have been swapping pedals on and off my board since I bought my Maz over 3 years ago. I've tried Klon clones, Several "transparent" OD's, and on and on. I kept going back to the Fulltone OCD and it has been my go to OD for the past year and a half. Today I received in the mail a Keely Super Phat Drive. Wow! I think this one is a keeper. I'm not very good at describing tone but it just seems "tighter" than the OCD. You can dial up the drive knob past noon and it doesn't get fizzy.

i like my maz pushed naturally into an overdriven state, but what really works nicely in the front end is an xotic bb preamp pedal. just add enough gain to taste

There is an old OCD on my board that's been there for nearly 10 years now, and I really like that with a Maz, especially for my Les Paul. I'm experimenting with an EP booster for a new strat I've got, and will have a skreddy P19 later this week - my plan is to place the Skreddy first, then the OCD, and then the EP - that's what makes sense in my head. Most of what I like is in the medium to low range, so the OCD and EP will see the most use - but I'm planning on using the P19 for the singing lead stuff that I hear in my head

Great pedal!

Ep is good for just a bit more you. I recently got a mythical overdrive and a Thorpyfx warthog. Warthog is really transparent. The mythical od adds a lot of bass bump to the tone. Really fat and warm. Works well with my tele.

My KOT worked great with my Maz 18NR. I don't know if it's worth paying $400-$500 on the resale market for one (unless you want to buy mine), but it's definitely worth putting your name on the waiting list and trying a bunch of other pedals in the meantime.

A great fat boost pedal is the moog mf delay. The drive sounds incredible.

Currently using a Keely Modified Boss SD-1. Great with P90 pickups. Sometimes use an old Ibanez from the '80s with humbuckers.

I was on the analogman page very recently, and if I recall correctly, folks on the waiting list from December of '15 were just getting to the top of the list. That speaks well to the perceived value of the pedal, but I don't have that kind of patience, and I'd never consider a knock-off or clone.

I will add I use the OCD set pretty clean and the if I want full on OD I push the OCD with a Flying Dragon. Really sounds great and covers a ton of tones.

I use a Diamond J-Drive set very low, for just adding a little "hair". The J-Drive has a nice clean boost so this pedal can be just a clean boost for jazzy stuff, a little "hair", or hair with boost added is a nice bluesy tone; next is a Gain Changer using the low gain setting. It's good for the fusion kinda stuff or rocking out when combined with the J-Drive hair; finally a Plimsoul for the all out anthemic stuff and/or slide. My Maz is set pretty clean (volume to suit room / master at noon).

I'm really liking the Rockett Chicken Soup with mine. Tele with Nocaster pups. Very good clarity with a touch of bottom. Very thick.

For years with my Maz 38 I've been using my KOT, OCD and KTR. Now I have my Maz Jr I used the same pedals on my first gig with it last night and they all work great with that amp too. Different drive pedals for different guitars.

EM Drive, JHS Superbolt. I set the amp at edge of breakup and it is my clean tone and then digging in is my 1st stage OD. The Em Drive is kind of an always on, but I dirty it up a little for stage 2 OD. Then my Superbolt has 3rd stage and a 4th if I need it. Then if I really need to scream, my Wampler dB+ boost to drive it home.

This is what happens when you buy pedals and never sell/trade them: I run my Maz jr clean so I use a Timmy at the front of the chain to add just a little "hair" when needed, without colouring the tone. Next is a Diamond compressor acting as a clean boost for jazzy/octave stuff (and also stacked with an OD for slide). Next is a (Hermida) Zendrive to do the bluesy/Larry Carlton stuff. There's a Gain Changer next for the pop/fusion stuff and finally a Plimsoul for the long sustain Santana style stuff. Tremelo pedal and delay to complete the picture... Its a bit schizophrenic, but i cover a lot of melodic territory i guess.
