I've got a 1x12 Monza combo with the MV from the factory... it's great, it's LOUD, but I often wish it had a loop. I rarely use this amp with the gain full up, or even half way up. Which leads me to think I might like something else with lower gain ranges.
I've really been wanting to try a Carr Lincoln but haven't had a chance yet. I've been studying a lot of amps lately, particularly in the EL84/chimey camps. What else should I look at? Maz 18? I don't need any more volume than what the Monza has, it's plenty....so, as great as a DC30 would be - too loud. Bad Cat Black Cat has peaked my attention....

I've used a Gold, a Creamback, a G12h30, and a WGS ET65. For cleans and chime the Gold was great. For earlier breakup and some chime the G12h was good. I liked the Creamback as well, but I really prefer it with my Z28 or Remedy. ET65 - it's back in the box.

Get rid of my Monza for... maybe a million bucks??
Sorry, I'm probably not much use here, because I too don't use my Monza for high-gain stuff. But that's OK with me, because I really like it's voice at moderate gain (my secret is that the Drive always stays a little higher than the Volume) with the Master set at reasonably low volume. If the 1x12 is too loud, try dropping the chassis into a 1x10 combo cab and use a G10 Greenback speaker in it. Your volume will drop WAY down.
I can appreciate you looking at the Carr Lincoln (Carr's are fantastic amps, I have one) but to me the Monza does not sound like any other EL84 amp, period; that could be part of the problem if you're looking for "chime" because I don't sense that coming from the Monza like it comes from other EL84 amps. (Doc's DB4 is the same way--I would never guess it had EL84's if I hadn't seen 'em myself.) Honestly, the tried & true ol' MAZ 18 will chime way more than the Monza.

I'm sure I know the answer to this.... but is the lincoln similar to anything else? (Ever played a Mesa TA15 or TA30?)

I'm patiently waiting for Doc to drop that new EL34 masterpiece. My /13 will be going bye-bye if it can cop that JCM goodness.
I'll be interested to see if it will do hi/lo for higher gain vs plexi-ish tones. Where's the popcorn?
