I see that the SS is using a 12DW7. I haven't seen anyone use that tube for awhile. The last amp I owned that used one was an Ampeg combo back in the '70's.

Likely...... Yes it is the buffered effects loop. Half a 12AU7 for cathode follower ( Send ) and other half 12AX7 gain return. That is a 12DW7, perfect for this application. Z

Man the steel sounds terrific through the Z amp. I played in a couple of bands through the years with a couple of really good steel players. There is nothing that sounds like it--really cool sounding instrument. You do not want to be standing by one if a string goes I can tell you from experience. Very complicated piece of gear and there are steels with different tunings and pedals. I ask one of the steel players if he could teach me how to play and he asked me if I had 7 or 8 years to really learn the instrument. Suffice it to say I did not take him up on his offer. Both players that I played with both used solid state peavey's for their amps and they sounded great, but I bet Doc's amp would put it in another realm. Would love to hear one live.
