Would you pay $109.95 for a RCA 1964 5751 Black Plate?

No I surely would not. RCA Command 5751's are wonderful tubes but 109.00, they are not 4 times better then a GE JAN 5751.

No way. I have both in my stash and I can tell a difference in how they sound but to me neither one is "better". They are just different. Nothing a little tweaking of the EQ won't equal out. Incidentally, I bought that RCA when they were going for $40. Sure glad I did.

Thanks Doc, I did feel that was a little steep!

On top of everything that's been said, today's "NOS" tubes (and this is only my opinion...) have likely been picked over and the best are long gone. This is why we saw the emergence of the moniker "ANOS" a couple of years back. "Almost new old stock"...is what I used to think of as a "Factory second". I'm really skeptical about tubes today, they have become a hot market for fakes. There are some really talented con artists making fake tubes nowadays. Just sayin'...Ya gotta be careful and know your supplier or it's a major crap shoot. I learned the expensive way.
Thanks, DR.Z for making great amps that run on production glass!

Almost all of my NOS preamp tubes were bought at least 15 years ago. I have a mid 60's Ampeg amp that has almost no time on it because the power supply failed and it sat for years before I bought it to repair. It has the original tubes and they test and sound fine so I guess they would be considered ANOS. I always assumed that ANOS tubes were "pulls" like that from little used equipment.
