I have been pouring through the info on this forum and could not find much discussion regarding the use of 5881 or 6L6WGB tubes. I'm looking at some NOS tubes and am wondering has anyone experimented? ??

To haven't used those tubes mentioned but I've tried other credible tubes in my Therapy. For the life of me I can't remember which ones I tried because my time with other tubes was so brief. I always went back to the tubes that came with the amp when I bought it new. The Doc had it right the first time and now searching for other tubes is one less headache for me to have.

I put a nice NOS Rectifier in and left the stock 6L6's and pre amp tubes. It sounds killer.

Ok ... I've been experimenting with preamp tubes ... So far, stock preamp tubes seem to sound as good or better than anything I've tried (big surprise right 😉). Just wanted opinions of other members who have tried other power tubes ... Sounds like the general consensus is that stock tubes seem to sound best (probably a good thing since the price is a lot nicer than the NOS tubes I've been looking at). Although, I may give the J.J. 6v6 a try to get earlier breakup.
I've been using an attenuator and am really pleased with the sound of the amp, especially when pushing the preamp tubes.
I did pick up a NOS rectifier tube ... for reliability.

I went round the mountain with different tubes in my Therapy too, and ended up with...surprise...a NOS rectifier and stock JJ's.

Yesterday, I dug through my tube collection and tried some more power and preamp tubes. The biggest suprise was when I tried a set of Groove Tubes 6L6GE with a 9 rating (late breakup)... I briefly tried these in a THD Flexi and thought they sounded great. However in The Therapy ... I didn't like them, actually couldn't get them out fast enough-- very harsh sounding.
I found a nice old Phillips Holland 12AX7 and put that in V1 -- Loved it! Just a little brighter than the stock JJ making it easier to dial in a nice sound with my 335.
Also tried the Therapy with an Egnater with a Celestion Elite (a specially voiced Lead 80 in a Thiele style cabinet) ... it sounded great--especially with humbuckers!

What's the benefit of running a NOS tube in the rectifier? Tonal difference?

What's the benefit of running a NOS tube in the rectifier? Tonal difference? For me it's the dependability/longevity of the NOS ones over the currently made new ones.
