I've been using the EQ bypass on my Maz more than ever, which has led me to the question: can you mod the Therapy with an EQ bypass foot switch???

Good thinking and good question.
i love the bypass on the Maz 8 and I pondered the same thing on the Therapy.
I will be anxious to hear from Dr. Z on the circuit capabilities. I personally don't need the option but I am curious about the circuit.
2 points for content!

Now that I think I fully understand how interactive these Z tone and volume controls are, I've gotten off of my overdrive obsession and have moved on to boost obsession. Clean boosts, treble boosts, mid boosts, etc. The EQ bypass as a boost on the Maz is exceptional and I'm kicking myself for not utilizing it properly and sooner.

I have the Wampler DB in the first position on my board, it has a clean boost that I use to control the volume of the board based upon the guitar. I also pretty much leave the EP Booster on all of the time and then kick on the Gain Changer set for high gain for tunes like Tie Your Mother Down.
I have been coaxing out great natural tube driven tones lately.

I need Mr. Barber to release the GCX so I can get back into a Gain Changer.

You know, on the Therapy I'd say EQ bypass might mean less output. It seems like the EQ adds a lot of the overall volume with the Therapy. But I do wish my Therapy had a boost...what more could a fella want with these amps but more of it.
I'm loving my Therapy with the Weber ceramic Blue Dog and ZVerb.

I guess when I think EQ bypass, I'm thinking of the tone controls as cut devices. When you bypass them, you're getting full frequencies and full gain ranges for each spectrum.

Sure can . Shorting jack connected to the ground lead of the Middle pot. Grounded standard. Lifted ground boost.

Z Thanks, Doc! You're the best. I also meant, "can you?" literally. I have no idea what the hell you just said.

Contact Don @ repairs@drzamps.com. We are kind of busy right now in the middle of the holiday rush. It can be done but maybe in a few months when things slow down a bit.

That's totally cool, I'm in no rush. Glad to hear business is ripping. Shipping to and from San Diego is awful. I should be in Detroit after the New Year, maybe I can bring it with me. I'd still love to come by the shop, too.

Frank, I think I understand the directions. Let's roll up our sleeves and practice on your amp and save shipping. I'm going to be in the Bay Area Thursday. How about you get to work on your Therapy so I can demo it while I'm there??? Then, if it doesn't burn the house down, I'll bring my amp up on my next trip.

I love the Therapy as is but I'm VERY curious to see how the EQ bypass would change the sound of the Therapy. If anyone does this, please get some recordings!!!

Turn the TMB stack to wide open, then hit it with about 10 dB of clean boost. That's what I imagine it would sound like.
I'll be the guinea pig for the mod, happily. We'll just have to wait until after the first of the year.

Not that there is anything wrong with it now, at all. But why not if you can and it is a certified modification. Here's a list of the Therapy Mod Squad so far. I am speculating on some, but I bet there is more that would enjoy the By-Pass Mod. Irreversal Purpletele premiumplus (Dave)JeffGwalt, he can't resist a Mod Job simpleton (Not sure he has a back up amp, but I bet he can't resist) Any more?

Z Seems easy enough would you mount the jack on empty real estate on the chassis or would you redo the back face plate to accommodate the update ?

Thanks for the offer, but I'm way too over loaded at this time of the year. Your right I do need a vacation, my last vacation was my senior year of college 1977.

just tried it out.. at first I thought I could lift the wire off the threaded nut but it is also attached to the ground on the Volume pot So i unsoldered it this mod is really cool reminds me of the EQ bypass on the Maz 8 I once had... provides a nice boost in all the ranges of the amp. there are also two available holes that look like they would accommodate the jack plug in the back face plate .. go at it boy's !!!!

Does that mean you took a vacation in 77 or your last year of college was a breeze? I am desperate as well to unplug and hang out on a beach. Maybe in January

Actually, although I usually can't just leave things alone,I am totally satisfied with the Therapy, don't feel the need for an EQ bypass.changing power tubes, and mic placement, guitars,I have a lot of interesting sounds already. I'll say it again-treble zero'd out, master as you like, volume at 3 o'clock is the sound of ROCK-months into it and still LOVE it.I hardly change the amp settings, just lower the Guitar volume.

Walt, I'll check out your settings. I think I am a hopeless Circuit Mod Head. Like many others, my electrical and electronics background puts me into a certain category of geek. Honestly, I am absolutely enamored with the Therapy and cannot even tap the capabilities that exist in front of me. It seems that my custom projects and mod projects are driven by anxiety and stress, and it seems that something is missing unless I have a somewhat meaningful electronics project going on. I have to seriously resist doing what Albert just did, although I am sure it is simple. SaulGoodman!

Ok you asked so here are some pics the first pic shows the holes on the chassis with the back faceplate covering them I would use the hole on the right which is the one closer to the volume pot although the left looks to be the correct size so it is your choice ... these holes are probably there for other amps in the Z Line so we can use them to our benefit This pic shows the Grenn Ground wire I lifted off the Mid pot it was colored in blue marker so this shows that I have put it back on this is where you can make the connection for the two wires to the switch solder one to the tab on the pot ... the other you can solder/heat shrink over the green wire or use a butt splice .. you can also see the nut just below the mid pot I spoke of you can also put an eyelet on the wire coming back from the switch and ground it here .... just a side note I am always in awe at the beauty and craftsmanship that is put into these amps alot of the old electrical hardware where I work was done this way...some long since replaced but some still in service .... Thanks to Dr Z for making these beauties and keeping an old craft alive !!
