When I hit a chord with a lot of force, but not excessive force, I get immediate attenuation for a fraction of a second. It attenuates to almost no sound and is very garbled. It is most likely to happen with an open E chord and is less likely to happen as the frequencies are higher. It is more likely to happen with an overdrive pedal but will happen with no pedals between guitar and amp. It happens regardless of the settings of Volume and Master. There is no crackling or any other degradation of sound from the amp. I bought the amp used and it has done this since the day I bought it.
I have replaced the power tube and some of the preamp tubes over the couple years I have had the amp but I am due to retube entirely. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas of how I might isolate the problem?
Other than this issue, I LOVE my MAZ 8!
Thanks

Welcome to the forum! Try changing out the rectifier.

How much time does the current EL84 have on it? In my experience that is exactly what happens when a cathode biased EL84 is about to die. Those tubes typically don't last long. I keep fairly fresh power tubes in my MAZ Jr. Why not? They are cheap.

I plan to replace ALL the tubes. I think I'll install one at a time to see which, if any, is the culprit. It may be a while as I have lots on my plate right now but I will report back. Thanks for the replies and welcomes.
