I saw on another thread that Humbucker is ordering MAZ Jr's with lightweight combo cabs so I contacted them to see if I could get a MAZ 8 combo with a lightweight cab. The answer was yes. I am waiting on some more info from them about cab dimensions, color availability and price. As soon as I get that info I will place an order. Lead times are 6-8 weeks.

👍 Nice! Taking a ride up to Humbucker next month, hoping to pull the trigger on a new Z. I'd like a Lite cab, but I don't knowing I can handle a 6-8 week wait!

Here is the info from Humbucker regarding the lightweight combo cabs. Note that these are for the MAZ Jr so MAZ 8 weights would be slightly lighter. I would expect the lite combo to be within a pound or two of the Studio combo. I also noticed that the inside cabinet dimensions would be about the same as a standard cabinet so I would expect it to sound very similar to that.
"Just to give you a feel for the differences, here are the weights and dimensions of a Maz Jr NR:
Maz Jr NR 112 Studio 18.75 in Length 19.25 in Height 10.50 in Depth 38 lbs
Maz Jr NR 112 Standard 22.50 in Length 20 in Height 10.50 in Depth 52 lbs
Maz Jr NR 112 lite 22 in Length 19.50 in Height 10 in Depth 42 lbs
They are available in the same colors as the standard model. There is a $69 up charge for the lite cab. The Maz 8 would definitely be the newest version with the NOS tubes and updates."

Seems to be likely the same cab using the light 12mm (1/2") Italian ply and not Doc's standard 19mm (3/4") Birch ply (hence the 1/2" dimension differences.

That's what I figured. I'm anxious to A/B it with the std cab my MAZ Jr is in. I expect it to be more lively. Similar to the pine cabs my BF Fenders were in. Or the 1/2" ply cab my Ampeg Gemini 1 is in. I'm looking forward to the tonal change more than the weight difference

Any plans for 1X12 SPEAKER CABINET offered in the New Ultra Lite Cab construction?

I'm confused by your question.

I'm confused by your question. I guess the assumption by the post is that Doc's current 112 speaker cab at 38 lbs is constructed using 3/4" Birch ply and, if so, will there be a lighter cab built from 1/2" Birch ply in the future?

My Lightweight cab for my MAZ 8 was a special order and cost me an extra $65.00. I'll bet that eventually it will be standard or at least a no-cost option. Of course the MAZ 8 and the MAZ 18 cabs are interchangeable.

Of course the MAZ 8 and the MAZ 18 cabs are interchangeable. I'm all for paying extra if I can get exactly what I want However, I know there are limitations that a small shop like the Z shop can do when it comes to deviating from the standard offerings. I need to get a Z 112, though, so it will be interesting to see if the speaker cabs undergo an update at some point.

Also, at the time I ordered only Humbucker was selling the lightweight cabs. I have no idea what other dealers are selling now.

Anybody know if the newer maz 8 studio combos are coming with the thinner 12mm Italian ply?

I just looked at the MAZ 8 Studio Combos on Humbucker's site and believe I saw something strange. The top and bottom panels appear to be the 12mm thickness but the sides look like they are the old standard thickness. Is that what anyone else thinks?
