I have had an original Stingray combo.....Due to some back issues, I'm converting it to a head (found a local deal today). I know other Z's have the re-orientated faceplate on the reverse of the current faceplate. Does anyone know if an original Stingray also has the reversed faceplate on the back, or will I be stuck with an upside down faceplate? [UPDATE] Deed is done, she's now a head and cab! Now to keep my OCD in check until I figure out what to do about that faceplate? [UPDATE 2] Received my new faceplate today...All is right in the world! Before After UPDATE 10/7/16...and after some work, I have the color scheme I originally wanted!

Can you send it back to the factory and purchase the "correct" version? Oh wait, they probably don't have any Stingray face plates lying around. Make up an interesting story about why it's upside down?

What happens if you play it in the mirror ?

Why not flip the head upside down? That way it'll look ok (I realize the handle will be on the bottom but hey, you can't have everything! )

Just stand behind the amp and bend over towards the front when making adjustments. Problem solved.

Not the best pic, but too much junk on my floor to zoom out (getting ready for a camping trip)

How did you resolve the issue?

How did you resolve the issue? I reached out to Dr. Z to see if he had any left over Stingray panels...... Initially he didn't think he did, but a few days later he sent me a message and said he found one last Stingray panel for a head. He said since I've been such a huge supporter of Z amps on here and other places, he would have no problems with me having it. Obviously, it wasn't free, but he didn't mark it up just because it was a rare piece either. Which I'm more than appreciative about!

I like the two color effect, red head and blonde valance and cabinet. I used to think the head and cabinet had to match, however I'm used to my surf green antidote with red cabinets. I'm so used to the difference I think if they were the same it would feel off. I think your color scheme is so right. Rock the difference.

Oh man you've done a fantastic job with that! Not bad. But still only good for 2nd place in the Stingray beauty pageant!

Sadly that red Tele is long gone. I did replace it with a purple one though - that should count for something!

I'm confused. The Dr Z web site and this forum's board spells it "Stangray" but the faceplates say "Stingray". I see it referred to here on the forum both ways. So which is it and why the difference?

The first 50 units were named "Stingray". Earnie Ball asked Doc to change the name since they had the Stingray Bass and people might have become "confused" between the bass and the amp (yea, right!) It became the Manta Ray (I think only one made) and then the Stangray. There are a few floating around out there where the tube chart was printed Stingray and then crossed out and Stangray written in pen. The one I saw was a combo and I think the number was #57 or #58.

I actually like Stangray better than Stingray......it's just more fitting for that amp !

Mike answered it perfectly with all the facts! I've had a few Stang Ray's...... I've ALWAYS wanted a Stingray. After some amp buying and trading, I ended up with a Stingray. Not the color I wanted, but now it's exactly like I want!

The red Tele really ties it together. That is SUPER sexy!! I've always been fond of the "Strawberry Blond" look...I'd say this, "Surf Blond". is a very close 2nd for me! If my back wasn't so "jacked", I'd have the red/blond 2x12 cab like this. Also, LOVE The red bound Tele with the Maple neck.

Yeah - that red Tele is THE one that got away for me. The purple IS filling in nicely though.
