My Z-Lux arrived today (on time)! Had planned to leave work early and spend most of the rest of the day with it, but ended up getting tied up at work so I got home late, ending up only having time to unbox it before heading out to make our dinner reservations. It's a thing of beauty, and in absolute pristine condition! So, now I'm about to get into something more comfy and give this thing a go. I feel like a kid on Christmas Day.

I got to put about an hour or so on it last night through my tele and Anderson s-type. Really clean/clear note definition, and amazingly responsive. Light attack to heavy attack--it's there, it's obvious, just whatever your hands and fingers throw at it you get, and in a big way. Love that aspect! And there is nothing to hide behind. You can really hear the character of the guitar played through it. Absolutely no flab in the lower notes/strings (E/A)--I could just play on those 2 strings all night long they sound so good and what I've been looking for in an amp for so long. I'm not sure if it's mainly attributed to the amp or the speaker, or a combination of both. I've been curious about the Z-12 speaker for awhile so I'm not sure how much of what I'm hearing is attributed to the speaker or just the amp. I'm going to run my CG and Maz18 through the speaker to hear the difference it makes. I've been running both through a Cel Blue for awhile now, so it will be interesting to hear them through the Z-12. The highs are a little bright/crisp, but I'm hoping speaker break in will take care of that. If not, I'll just have to EQ until I can find the sweet spot. And the tremelo...I may have spent most of the time playing with it on; it sounds so sweet. The reverb is quite good as well though I'm not a fan of a lot of reverb and typically use none. For me, a little reverb goes a long way. And just a touch of the reverb in this amp just made it feel right. As for the EQ bypass boost, what little time I spent with it on, it really seemed to change the character. I'll spend a lot more time with that today to get a better feel for it, but I love the attenuator on the boost pedal itself. I have another amp-specific boost pedal that comes with another (non Z) amp that has no pedal attenuation and I can't use it because the db increase is too much. I spent most of the time on the 20 watt setting since, for my purposes, that's what I'll predominantly be using (we mic up) but did venture into the 40 watt mode. Sounded great in either mode. Only difference appeared to be in the volume, no tonal difference, though who doesn't like to hear a good thing louder? Cosmetically, it's a beautiful amp. I think the ZWreck cloth really dresses it up. It's a classy-looking amp. As far as the weight, I'm used to head and cabs, so though most players are tickled with the reduction in weight versus a standard cab, it seems heavy from what I'm used to hauling. I'll get over it. A road case with casters should help a lot though I'm not sure how I'll lift it after adding the case. I guess it gives me an excuse to start hitting the gym. So, my initial thoughts are that I really like what I'm hearing...a lot. I've never said this about any of the many other amps I've owned or played, but I think I could actually see gigging with the guitar straight into the amp. With the reverb, tremelo, and boost, I think it's extremely doable. And this is coming from someone who always plays with some delay and compression on at a minimum. Based on it's clean platform, it's obvious this amp will take pedals well. I'm going to run my pedals through it today, but I can already tell that it will need minimum of whatever is added. Anxious to hear what the LP with P-90s is going to sound like through it. It's going to be a fun day! Can't wait to hear it in a gig setting.

...BTW, check out how his controls are set...looks to me like it's ready to go, mebbe a skosh more bass...yeah, baby yeah! To start, I eq'd everything at noon and went from there. But, I'm definitely going to run back through the other posts and pics and check out everyone's settings. I'm sure they all sound good in their own way. Obviously, Z folk have great ears and the ability to identify and nail great tone!

It's pretty amazing, you've gotta work to get a bad tone out of this amp. I'm not sure there are any bad ones.

99.9 Per cent of the time I gig mine just straight in no effects. Just guitar and the boost is always on. I had a gig last night and tested out this other amp I recently got as a gab and go and was really disappointed in the tone I was getting the Z-lux got me spoiled. I mean no comparison. Its such a big lush sounding amp. I really missed it last night. As Dave said you really have to work to get a bad tone out of the Z-Lux. Needless to say I have a amp up for sale on reverb now and it ain't the Z-Lux!
