This is probably gonna be the stupidest question in Ztalk history but here it goes! Will playing at loud volumes (on any amp) for a about 10-15 minutes make ears numb to the point of feeling the need to turn up more?
Basically what I mean is MV and V at noon doesn't seem too loud after about 10 minutes but when I first crank up it seems pretty dang loud. Then when I take a break and go back to it I feel like it's loud again. Do tube amps lose a little volume when tubes are going bad? Make sense to anybody?

Not to be facetious, but I've been doing it since 1966.
Enjoy the ride.

It's your ears. You want to see how much they numb? Put an earplug in one ear. Play a set or less, then pull it out. Then listen to something with one ear closed off and then with the other. You'll be amazed. It's why if you listen to the radio on the way home from playing, it's so loud the next time you're in the car.

I used to get home from band practice(10x10 basement room, amps set up wrong,so all too loud)and my wife sounded like the teacher on Peanuts. For 4-5 years we fought over the amount of treble on the car radio. So yea,I guess it's your ears.

I recently saw the protect your ears thread pop up...I've always hated ear plugs when playing....just couldn't adapt. That said ... I do think the volume levels normalize when you are playing a bit...take a break and come back after a short break and I wouldn't think your ears would feel like it was loud but after a longer break for sure. That's why we guitarist are always turning up a little louder.
I've never noticed tubes fluctuate in volume levels...going up and down. I'm sure I've had tubes that lost their zip and fresh ones brought the zing back but I don't think I've ever noticed volume loss. Usually tubes just go bad ....DEAD.

Failing power tubes can cause volume fluctuations , bet it is VERY noticeable , not a subtle type of thing. I agree with the others , it's your ears. I've experienced it too.

Definitely the ears. A MAZ 8 with Brake Lite on 4 (max attenuation) and Master cranked can be pretty loud in a bedroom.
