Been a couple of years since I sub'd a TungSol 12AX7 in there. Harder and harder to find good 5751's NOS. Lost most of my suppliers for them.
The Tung Sol sounds real good with a touch more drive.

You can still swap it out for a 5751. We only need to find one good tube Dr. Z needs to find hundreds.

My amp sounds great with the 12ax7! I just noticed the tube chart said v2 was a 5751, and I was just curious! Thanks for the replies!

The 5751 round out the tone a bit and gives a bit more headroom to my ears....the 12AX7 gave it a bit edgier sound and brought the headroom down a tad to my ears.....but I had an earlier Ghia that was made with the 5751....I'm not sure if Doc altered the design at all to accommodate the change.

^^^^^ same with the Z28, but both options sound great. It's the EF86's I'm worried about /o\

I've got a mk3 (I think) and I replaced v1 with 5751 and now the amp seems to take pedals more like my buddy's ef86 rxes. The Ghia is such a superb amp

You guys are confirming what I've thought about the Ghia all along. That it really changes character with different tubes (speakers too). I've gone with every conceivable combination and right now I'm liking JJ ECC83s with Perryr's 6n14n's. With a 10" Celestion Gold. Sounds powerful, fat, and overdrives nicely. It's just a great amp.

I love the Ghia, being able to change a tube, or speaker and the amp reacts to every change. I actually been thinking of getting a second Ghia.
I've been using a 5v4 as the Rectifier, that took some of the sponginess out of the bottom end.
