Been thinking about a MAZ 8 A LOT ...... I'd get a new one with the updates for sure. I've told myself if I ever get another Z it would have to be new to enusure that I am indeed contributing to the actual Z family. I've always bought used and the last amp I got, the Therapy, needed a repair after I'd had it a short time.....well Dr. Z fixed it for free as if I had a warrenty....anyhow the new MAZ 8 looks awesome and I want a red one with the ZWreck grill cloth. However I've also been thinking about a used PRS McCarty and selling my LP with P90's to assist in the swapping. I see a really good deal on a late 90's one on Reverb right now....but then I think for a little bit more I could just by a MAZ 8 and keep the LP and be happy with a little less money. Confessions of a gear hound........

I am totally enamored with the tone of the 8 in my living room.
I too felt compelled to support the GNP all the way to our local amp manufacturer. I can see that amp being around for quite a while.
And for fun I am expecting a matching studio cab soon. Right now I have the G12M65 Creamback. Not sure what goes into the new extension cab.
I support your decision! Or at least your thoughts.

Get the MAZ! Even a cheap guitar can sound great through a good amp, but even a great guitar probably can't sound great through a so so amp. At least in my experience.

I sold mine earlier this year and I miss it. It's the ultimate grab-and-go amp! So I just ordered a new one with the reverb, power tube, and master volume improvements.

Just got mine a couple weeks ago. I've had two Maz 38's. One w/verb, one NR. Loved. both. This thing has already surpassed my expectations. So rich, complex tones. And all those tones are available at controllable volumes. Just incredible. Got my first gig with it coming up in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

I usually don't buy combos but want a smaller size combo (in the Fender Princeton vein) for the Man Cave. I think if the Maz 8 had a tremolo it would be perfect for what I'm looking for. Still may consider it even though it doesn't have a tremolo....but I'd really like to have the tremolo built into the amp I buy.

I've liked Swart and Divided by 13 that I've had before Z's, but they don't sing like the Z amps do....I've tried thinking of other brands but honestly I can't find any that interest me more than a Z AND most are usually more money too. The latest videos of the MAZ 8 with Dave Baker and Eric Ambel really stoked the desire. I really don't use tremolo, but I tell myself that if I had it I would use it all the time......with my Therapy I don't even miss reverb....but having that big splash is nice.

I have a boat load of Zs now and would try to buy a Z first if there was one that fit the bill. The Maz 8 sounds great in Dave's demos and if it had a trem I think I'd pull the trigger through my local dealer. I know there is the Z-Lux as well but there area couple things about it I don't really want. There's is only one non-Z I'd consider and I just sent an email off to the Canadian dealer as they have one in stock. Lol....it's a holiday here today so I'm cruising the net and sipping on beer....could be an expensive afternoon !

Get it!!! The MAZ 8 is a fantastic amplifier!! What is your favorite guitar thru your MAZ 8? No contest, my CS 50'sThinline Telecaster. Now,that being said...my Firebird,Danelectro baritone (tuned Tic Tac) sound fantastic through it as well. I've borrowed my buddies Les Paul a couple of times and that combination is unreal!! It LOVES Humbuckers!!! But the Tele/MAZ combination is what does it for me. It just sounds "complete", feels like it too. It has frequencies that a Fender just doesn't have, and I LOVE Blackface Fenders. You still have the TWANG,in droves, but those wonderful extra "Z" tones just sound HUGE!! Oddly enough though, the only thing I didn't dig with it was my Gretsch 6120,but that's just me. I have a tough time enjoying a Gretsch through anything but a Fender Blackface. But a Telecaster, with some Compression and the MAZ??? Heaven!! It's like a great Martin or a Collings, a Gibson F mandolin, or a Horn. It's it's own wonderful sound, that doesn't need anything else. You can do almost anything with it,as is. I've gotten rid of most of my effects, don't need em. It's distraction,it's unnessesary decoration. I have my Comp running all the time, some OD when I need it,my Rockabilly Slapback and some occasional Vibrato for faux-B3, all of which I'm getting from a RT-66 and H2o. Nice n simple. The base sound though is just perfect as is. My Tele, strung 11-49-Compression-and the MAZ 8....I can do 90% of anything I'm required to do; Country,Blues,RnB,Swing,Folk,Reggae,Soul, hit the Slapback and it's an amazing Rockabilly setup.

Like I said many times on here... MAZ 8 Studio combo is easily the only amp I'd keep if I had to choose one.
It's actually making me consider selling a lot of guitars. They all sound great through it, but damn, the Tele just sounds right.
On the other hand, I don't have a decent Strat right now, so it's also making me consider buying more guitars........

It's good to hear Tele and Strats......I've been loving my Strat lately. I've been wanting to get something lately and the MAZ 8 is right at the top....but so might a GHIA combo I'm torn. I really love the Ghia, and the lack of knobs means more playing less twiddling. I loved my LP with P90's thru the Ghia and I loved the two knobs....the MAZ 8 would be a new to me sound and one of the things I am really drawn to is the Pentode/Triode switch, MV, and on board reverb. of course the gear buying part of me recognizes that I could buy both a Ghia 1x10 combo AND a Z Drive pedal for about the same as a MAZ 8, but the MAZ has the boost feature which is awesome.....the Ghia is so easy to use and mixes well into two amp set ups, I'm sure the MAZ does as well but more knobs can cause my mind to 'keep adjusting' all the time, which I find happens with my Therapy. Versatility is both wonderful and awful for curious minds. The Ghia is a Zen amp, no real adjustments other than guitar and attitude.... ahhhh what a great dilemma.

I just got my new 1x12 Z cab for my Maz 8. I just got done trying 3 different speakers - Gold, Z's 12, and a Creamback. All of them sound great. I'm gonna run the Creamback with my Maz. It just nailed the sound I was looking for. This Maz 8 is a serious tone MONSTER! Just so versatile.

Greetings to the Dr Z community. Post numero uno.
I gotta say, the incredible wealth of information and support provided by this forum really adds a lot to the appeal of stepping up to a Dr Z amp. I haven't found anything even close for other amps, or gear in general.
I too have been hovering over the "add to cart" button for a while now. At this point it's really just a matter of getting the funds together.
A little background: I'm not a gigging musician. Just play for fun in my living room. So I'd be playing at relatively low volumes... at least until the neighbors go on vacation. At that point all bets are off.
My question is, at lowish volumes, which speaker option would best be suited to classic rock tones played through humbuckers ?
Up thread a few posts, purpletele indicates he loves the tones he's getting with a G12M65 Creamback in his living room. The Creamback seems to be winning over quite a few experienced MAZ 8 users. Is it safe to assume the Creamback would work good at attenuated volume levels ? Is there another factory available speaker option that works especially good at living room levels ? Thanks in advance. DC

And then there is the pairing of extension speakers. And then there are the Y cables. I just got notice that pcns is sending me my new Y cable. I would just start collecting the necessary gear. It's inevitable, you signed up, you have to get your first Z and then before you know it you realize you need a different one for other situations. Rock on!
