So I tried to get a little Z time today, but when I powered up my Maz, I got nothing. No light, no sound, no warm tubes. Nothing. Checked my outlet and power cord. Both good. I've got maybe 5 hours on the amp. Brand new.
Any ideas?

TroubleshootingFollow the steps on this link. Good luck, it's usually something simple. Make sure the cord is firmly seated in the back of the amp, I've been fooled before.

Probably the rectifier went south , and took the fuse with it. Sadly ., a common occurrence with newer rectifier tubes.

Thanks guys. I'll start troubleshooting tomorrow. Hopefully something simple. Don't have much time before an upcoming gig.

BTW, sorry to hear your problems with your new MAZ 8, redzsrock. Call Don @ 216 475 1962 he can help you go through the troubleshooting steps. Seems like a blown fuse, but can't be sure from the limited data. We'll get you fixed up, no fear.

Z Hi Mike, That would've been 5-6 years ago. I was living in Fort Vermilion,Alberta at the time, and we were playing a festival weekend here in Slave Lake,Ab where I currently live. We had gone down to the Venue where we were set up to get our gear before heading out to Mainstage. We were opening for Dwight Youkum and we're going to run over a few things. I fired the 38 up,and had no sound. Then the amp started to smoke. In the end, a Fuse,5AR4 and Transformer were taken out. I called Tech Support and dealt with a great gentleman (who's name is escaping me) and you guys fixed me up with a new Transformer and sent it to me. I had a Tech in Edmonton,Ab do the repair. She's still with me,and is sitting in my Guitar room ready to play. That venue we were in is notorious for power surges.

Well, Don at Dr Z got me going again. It was a bad rectifier, which of course blew the fuse. I panicked for bit, because I have a gig to get ready for in a couple weeks. Plus, I have no backup amp until my Z Lux arrives.

Another bad batch of Sovtek 5AR4's. They don't fail here, but don't hold up very long in the field. If they only knew what time and cost we go through to replace their faulty tubes, jeez.......

You might also consider picking up one of the pedal-sized EHX amps I keep the 22-watt version in my "trouble" bag. It's got tubes and fuses, but the little amp strikes me as a quicker "get up and running" option.

I don't personally own one of these, but the other guitar player in the band, who plays a Therapy, carries one just in case. They are small, fit in to your gig bag where you can just forget about it and if you EVER need it, it is ready to go. It will get you through the gig.

Z Ain't it the truth! I purchased an NOS 5AR4 , ran me about 100 bucks. But it's been in my Maz18 reverb head , then in my Maz 8 , and now in my new 18NR. Ten years and still going strong. Best 100 bucks I ever spent.

All electronics will fail eventually. It's how you're taken care of when they fail that separates the men from the boys. No one beats Z in that department, no one...

July,2011 was the day it happened. Etched into your mind.....that's not the smoke you want to see before a show Had to go back to pic's from the show on my Facebook. It was indeed a Sovtek 5AR4,as the good Doc says!! That time period absolutly sucked; Seperation,my MAZ was on the bench,no cash to get her fixed...,borrowing/renting Amps, but when I got the new transformer and had everything repaired....pure bliss!!

Indeed!! That Band had my MAZ 38,the STAR that the other Guitarist used and we had a Budda combo as a Backup. Finished the weekend with the Budda. Not-so-bad for a backup amp,to be sure, but I really missed my MAZ.

Well, it happened again. I just went to practice tonight and when I powered up the Maz 8, nothing. Just like before. This is not good as I have a gig a week from Saturday to get ready for and this is my only amp until the Z Luz is in.
I'm guessing it's the same thing as before - a bad rectifier tube. But maybe it's something else?? Now I'm nervous about using this amp without a backup.
I'll call Don in the morning.

Did you replace the fuse with a Slow-Blo? If its a fast acting fuse they blow very easily. Just a thought.
