Has anyone replaced the power tubes in there Z Wreck? I'm wondering if regular EL84's get the job done? Does anyone know where to purchase the 4 -6N14N tubes thats installed in it?

I tried EL84's in mine, just to hear the difference - They had a harsher bite and just weren't as "smooth" sounding and actually sounded a little more "scooped" in the mids.
I put the same set in my Stingray and they sound amazing! I think the 6N14N tubes in the Wreck sound best in the Wreck. EL84's would work and would probably sound just fine, if I hadn't heard it first with the stock tubes.

The Wreck runs the power tubes pretty hot. Regular EL84s, while they might sound alright, probably wouldn't last very long.
For myself, I'll stick with the 6N14N/7189 tubes that the Doc recommends.

Regular el84s will work fine. Contrary to popular belief, and according to Doc, the Zwreck runs the bias a tad hot, but the voltage is not higher than spec. See what Doc says here: ztalk.proboards.com/post/731201/thread

I'm curious to know something after reading a few posts on tube replacements for the z wreck. So I read in several posts that it is recommended to stick with the 6n14n power tubes the wreck comes with new and when needing replacement to go with the set you can get at the The Tube Store specifically for the wreck. Now when you go to the tube store to check this set out it actually refers to them as 6p14p's. Is there a difference between the n's and the p's?
