In 2015 I had a Zwreck combo and really liked it. Should've just kept it! Fast forward to now and I managed to snag a 2016 Zwreck head - the correct color too! What I seem to notice is the new head seems to be a bit brighter than the combo I had. It's not out of hand bright, and is still THE tone to be reckoned with. I know there are tons of variables at work here - tubes, caps, speakers, different cab, etc. I guess I'm just curious on others thoughts as to how the combo compares to the head/cab setup? I may even send it back to Doc just for a checkup.

I'm sure it just has to do with the different cab/speakers it's running through. When I went from my head/2x12 cab to a 1x12 combo, I remember being able to open up the treble and cut just a little more. The bass seemed to be more on the combo, which was odd?

Yea that seems to be what I'm noticing as well! Not bad, just different and interesting. I've missed the Zwreck tone.

Speakers make a world of difference! I just bought a DeLisle Amp Switcher that allows you to mix four different amps with four different speakers and the difference is amazing! I've run the amps through a Gold, a Zbest, a G12 65, and a pair of greenbacks. Before you make a switch make sure you're looking at apples to apples comparisons.

As I suspected, I think most of the highs were coming from my music room. I really need some studio panels on the walls to cut down on reflections. I played it at band practice last night and it was much better. Those mids that I remember from the combo came shining through! I was also playing it through a Weber Silverbell.

Seriously, like others said above, I think it's the combo cab & speaker. I started with the original quantum silver set, then a head, then that combo and liked it best for the open, less focused 3D sound it possessed. So much so, I just bought another one! Can't live with out that Z Wreck!
