I have owned about every DR Z non master Amp and the SRZ65 & Maz38. I liked them all & loved the KT-45. I picked up a 66 in early June, played 4 shows with it and it has the best mids of any amp I've owned.. Takes about 30 seconds to dial in with my Fulldrive 2 or OD 808 in front of it.
The 66 sounds like I always wanted my JTM45's to sound. With 3 knobs you'd think it's not very complex, but there's a wide range of tones in there.. The tone stack adding gain is brilliant. Like the KT-45.
The reviews on the RT 66 were always good, but very confusing.. The Milkshake thick or Syrup thing is the #1 choice of words that kept me away from this amp. It has incredible balance on all frequencies & for me has perfect midrange.
Playing it thru some 2x12 cabs with Greenbacks & the other V30's. I love the Greenbacks with it. V30's are good.. SG's were made for this amp.. Tele's too!
I'm saying goodbye to a lot amps in the coming months. The Route 66 is the only amp I'll be playing through..

DC here! Had my Route66 since 2007 - best amp I ever played so far (lets see what I think of the Z-Wreck I have coming in August - lols)
I run it with the 2x10" cab - removable backplate - it sounds just great. Have yet to meet anybody who says it sounds bad Cheers: Dixiechicken!

Had a recording session over the weekend. Ran it thru the Marshall 4x12 with creambacks in it. Pretty amazing tone coming from that amp. With my old OD808 in front of it, it's lethal! This amp nails exactly how I wanted my JTM45's to sound, but never did..

Howdy, The only Dr.Z amp I own is the wonderful Carmen Ghia; never had the pleasure to even play a Route 66. It seems to me that just as the Ghia generally fits best with Gibsons, the Route 66 with it's muscular mids is ideal for Fenders. YMMV and I hope to someday own a Route 66.

Not to derail the topic but can anybody compare it to the Remedy?
