I had a great day yesterday with the Therapy, Stratocaster, Les Paul, Swampkaster, and pedals.....each guitar,,as with all Z amps, truly stands out as a unique sound. Super inspiring, and incredibly varied sounds are easily coaxed out of this amp. Everything from perfect crystalline cleans with excessive highs to dark, and moody vibes filled with sonic smoke and mirrors.
this amp really is versatile, I can't say it enough. One won't get bored with this amp...you can get nearly any sound in your head with the EQ and tubes substitutions.....another great thing with this amp is that it does NOT compress into an overdriven mess...rather it seems to get bigger and broader as the gain goes up. The basic magic of this amp is accomplished with the master, volume and bass knobs....the mids and treble act as the flavor enhancers...a strangely unique and yet familiar sweep on them...they seem interchangeable.
really takes pedals well as they seem to mesh well at all volumes...with the Master Volume and the wattage, it would be hard to find a better home and gig worthy amp. Sometimes I'm surprised that it came and went so fast in the cool factor...except I admit the Z Lux sounds amazing from the reviews and I'd often like built in verb and trem.....but it's nice to have so few tubes and be able to swap around for various sounds within the tube family...something I've yet to do and am eager to try the 6V6, KT77, and EL34...
Overall this is the best amp I've had to date...super quiet noise floor, bedroom to any stage, low retube cost and easy on tubes, Bitchin overdrive with great sustain, beautiful cleans....can sound familiar and unique because of a huge EQ range.
A great amp for anyone looking at the Therapy and thinking a Tweed like Z with Dumble esk o.d. sounded awesome...well, it is.
