I recently sold some music equipment and am looking to buy another Z. Right now I have an EZG 50 and a Therapy. I am looking to get something of the el84 flavor. I had a Maz 18 reverb for awhile and really enjoyed it, but I have this feeling of need to try out the Z wreck. All those demos are just so fantastic and it is kind of the ultimate Z.
The problem is I just don't know if I will get along with it. I have had Z28, Monza, Bad Cat and I always find myself wanting that 3 band eq. Maybe it is all in my head and the Wreck will help me get over it. I keep my amps mostly clean and use pedals for dirt. I know this amp is meant to be opened up a bit, but the cleans (when you get some) on the demos sound great to me. When I play with the band my EZG 50 pre volume is at 1 with post at 9. Not sure if this is any kind of decent reference, but will the Z wreck be quite clean at that volume?
I figure if I can find a used head and need to sell it later I shouldn't be out anymore than $200. If it doesn't work out I will probably go for the Maz 18 NR. Now I just need to find one. I swear 6 months ago when I wasn't looking there were half a dozen Z Wreck heads for sale on Reverb. Right now there isn't a used one in sight. If you have any opinion of whether I should go for it or you think I am wasting my time and money feel free to share.

If you're going used, you shouldn't lose a thing in resale...I'd go for it!

As Mark said above, you shouldn't lose any money buying used and selling used a few weeks or months later.
The Z-Wreck has some great cleans with the volume at 9:00 (and under) and some nice cleans with a bit of hair around 10:00. They aren't "Stangray" cleans, but very nice. The Wreck has a more "vintage" tone with a stronger mid-range and a stiffer feel (in a good way) than a lot of the other Z's.

Buy and sell carefully. You should not be out anymore than one-way-shipping...

I've usually made money on these kind of tryouts. If I could bring myself to sell the gear, that is.

I've known another member here on other amp fora since, I'd guess the very early 2000s. He's an accomplished guitarist, has owned most of the Z amps (and others) and told me that the Z-Wreck was just too much for _him_.
I'm finding that the sustain and body of the amp sounds are absolutely great for me (more of a vocalist than a guitarist, but good enough that I wouldn't fire me as a rhythm player from a guitar gig.) I find that the Z-Wreck absolutely excels at everything with a single coil guitar- if I start to feel icky about any dimension of a single coil Rickenbacker (okay, that seems to not happen) or a Fender, I can plug it in and it does all of the things that make me feel great about that guitar. It works well with my Rickenbacker humbuckers, a little less perfect (but often great with adjustments) with most Gibson HB guitars. It sounds- I don't know how to perfectly describe it- maybe a little squeezed with a bigger Gibson jazz box.
It is unlikely that I will let this amp (Z-Wreck) out of my grasp any day soon- it's probably my favorite amp. I have a DC30 clone that I love, but it gets almost no use since I got this. It does seem that this amp (like some of my other amps) discriminates a bit for the type of pickups used. I have other amps for other things, but most of the time, I do play a single coil guitar. I am contemplating something a little deeper/throatier for some additional contrast- starting to lean toward a Route 66 with very careful speaker choice. I do use attenuation, in order to get distortion and keep some hearing.
