I hear that the Wreck is LOUD, but I also know that what is loud and unbearable in my house, is not too loud on stage at a gig. Currently I gig with a Remedy and a 1 x 12 Dr. Z cab with a Creamback in it. I run it at 40 watts with the master somewhere between 4 o'clock and dimed and the hi/lo volumes around 10-10:30. That is almost never too loud for the gigs I play.
My gut feeling is that the Wreck won't be louder than the Remedy at those settings, with the same 97db speaker. Am I wrong?
My other question is will the Wreck still sound great with a creamback, or will I need the Gold?

Provided you're using a 1X12 with the Wreck, the volumes shouldn't be a whole lot different from one another.
Not sure about the Creamback, as I've not tried one with My Z Wreck...I'm quite happy with the Gold, so I saw no reason to change things up.

In theory, a 1x12 Wreck with an Alnico Gold at 100db will be louder than a Remedy 1x12 with a Creamback at 97db. A ten watt difference through the same speaker is only about .3db, so I think you'd hardly notice a difference.
Now, perceived volume is a whole other ballgame. I still think my 20 watt Monza is louder through the same speaker than my 35 watt Therapy.

I hear people say "The Wreck is Loud and you need a Brakelite to tame it", and I am sure it is loud. But my Remedy is never too loud and I run her wide open with the Hi/low volumes around 10. Of course, I don't play in a lot of small venues. The only thing that causes me to pause on the Wreck, besides the cost, is the whole "OMG this thing is loud" thing.

I had the pleasure of playing a Wreck a while back. My initial thoughts were that I would never be able to use the amp to its full potential. I've never felt that way about the other Z amps I've owned. Probably a good thing, because the last thing I need right now is another amp!!!

But is the Wreck actually loud, or does it suffer from Rx syndrome? That's what I would look at. My Rx seems loud, but that's because it basically hits like 80% of perceived volume by 9 o'clock and everything after that is essentially more crunch with a little more volume (to my ears). It could also be frequency emphasis. My Rx seems to get louder with the brightness switch engaged or with the expand switch engaged, but it's probably just putting more emphasis on mids and upper mids as opposed to adding a significant amount of dB.

I think the loudest Z amp I own is the Maz GT. My ears perceive it to be louder than either the Wreck or Remedy. The Wreck and Remedy are awfully close with the same speakers.

What you're describing is my exact experience. I also use a brake lite and started getting frustrated that at 2 clicks I couldn't get a volume boost even by maxing out the volume on a z drive pedal. It's because max volume was achieved early and I was only adding pre gain drive.

That is a good point and now that I own a Wreck, I am wondering at one point you reach max volume on the Wreck BEFORE you start getting into dirtyville? Any thoughts?
