Hello everyone! im new in this forum, and big fan of the Dr, so hi Doc;)! anyways, now im playing bass in a band and want to find out how safe' and convenient would be to use the 4x10 cab with an aguilar th 350? what ive read so far, the cab is rated at 280 watts whereas the aguilar is 350, normally i wouldnt crank the volume i just want more headroom because currently i use an ampeg 4x10 rated at 8 ohms, so i m using only 175 watts from the aguilar head, whereas if i use the z cab rated at 4 ohms that would allow me ( in my silly logic) to use more watts; thus increasing a bit volume/headroom. anyways, any ideas/comments? thanks guys!

Interesting question. I'd be interested in hearing some opinions on this as well!

Something tells me it's not a matter of power handling, but more so a matter of speaker-cone excursion (forward & back movement of the speaker cone) known as Xmax. Speakers designed for PA & bass have a rather large Xmax; speakers designed specifically for guitar--like Doc's Eminence Z-10's--don't. Probably only safe at extremely low-volume... like bedroom level. Otherwise, one good whack of that low string and you might pop a speaker or two.

Thanks a lot for your input, i was thinking also that the speakers where different obviously, but never knew why, know i do:) I think ure right, theyre not designed to handle such low frequencies and plus i actually think i might just have blowed one speaker from the ampeg! wouldnt do that to the z cab. Specially because i have two gigs next week and prefer not to take the risk to damage the z cab. Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the Forum Pancho! A lot of good people and information here. You might check with Todd to see what his wife is using for speakers as she plays bass. (She has a Delta 88 that has been tweaked to be a bass amp.)
