My name's Frank and I'm a pedalholic. Every time I look down at my board and I see that empty space, I think "what can I put there?" Well, pick my next pedal. What should I put there? No reverb pedals, please...

More dirt! You need a Wampler Velvet Fuzz and a Jetter GS124--trust me. Also, you could get a fancy delay like a Timeline, or a TC X4 variant. I'd trade the TC tremolo for the Diamond, also. A lot of folks here are going to say Z-Drive, too. I haven't tried one yet.

Something that's a different flavor from the Gain Changer, the TS-ish and Klon-ish Rook and the clean boost RC. Couple notes: - Had a Z Drive, sold it, but I do miss the green channel. - I actually traded the TC Trem for the Rook, then traded my Mellow Yellow Trem to get the TC back. It's a really good, subtle trem. True Bypass be damned. - The Flashback is a decent delay, too, but I only really use the analog or lo-fi options.

I don't have any space on any of my three boards, so I don't have the problem...
Or maybe I've already had it...
Yeah.

I don't even know what half that stuff is.... If you step on them in a certain sequence, they launch nuclear warheads...

Xotic SP Compressor right after (or even before) tuner. Set it so it barely does anything (Lo Compression, Blend 30-40%, Volume to match) and play guitar for a week. Feel underwhelmed for a while. Then switch it off for an hour and realise you never want to miss it ever again.

I lost all sense of dynamics and touch sensitivity, I just played hard all of the time. I play with varying levels of dirt most of the time now.

Xotic EP booster and/or EQ. If you're an EP Booster fan you should check out this Mod that Alchemy did for me. He installs external dip switches for $40. I just got it back in the mail. Very pleased.

I keep thinking more dirt as well. Love boost/od/distortion pedals but maybe try something a little different like say, Strymon lex, ehx Lester or the B9, C9, key 9 or their new Mel 9. Never tried any of them but, they look like something interesting to add to your board.

Sometimes you have to work with what you have. Seriously, this is one of my boards and every now and then I turn on a drive or 2, the flint, deco (with various chorus, flange and echo settings) and the el capstan all at the same time. You can come up with some crazy sounds. It's almost like getting a new pedal added to the board. Not always useful for cover songs but you can get lost coming up with new sounds using the pedals you already have!! Not to mention changing the order of your dirt pedals as well. Doesn't help GAS I know!

If your compressor doesn't have dry/wet, hits everything and reduces dynamics too much, it can ruin your playing. What I'm talking about, however, is subtle parallel compression (blend knob). I can play through the threshold, it's not clamping down. Whether I play softly or hit hard determines whether my MAZ stays clean or not. It just adds a little fullness and sustain and actually enables me to play softly and still be heard. That said, if you play dirty most of the time, a compressor doesn't make much sense. Dirt pedals and amp overdrive reduce dynamics to a point that makes it superfluous. I play almost clean almost all of the time. Check this out:

But they owe me about $2500 from all of the pedals I've purchased over the last few years...

So, I sold the Rook and got a Red Dirt Mini. I also called up Marc art Skreddy Pedals to order a Hybrid Fuzz Driver, but after talking to him about what I was looking for in a fuzz, he recommended the P19. Cool guy - I'll probably end up with a HFD at some point.
Mad Professor is sending me one of the new Sweet Honey Deluxes, too. It's going to be Hunger Games on my pedal board in a couple weeks...

Keeley 30ms. Trust me on this.
Compressors? I've had several. I tried the ones with whistles and bells, such as a Wampler Ego-Comp and Barber Tone Press but I've gone back to an old 2-knob Keeley. For me it just seems to be easier to dial in. Yes, it has fewer options but it's almost idiot-proof and I seem to need that in a comp. It was the standard for years for most of the top studio guitarists. That says something.
