Hello my Monza brothers, I was fortunate enough to get a Monza back in the stable last week.
I was playing around with it this afternoon and honestly forgot how great this amp is. The MV is really unreal.
Its been a few years since I've owned one of these little monsters and it is a joy to have back in the house. I have installed in a 1x10 cab with a nicely broken in Red Fang that Lonny lent me a while back.
Sure is a great sounding amp, the gain on this amp is so awesome. Total kick butt rock sounds and up (especially with a humbucker guitar) and some really thick fat cleans. You can really hear its Carmen Ghia roots when you clean it up and play something pretty. For those who don't know, the Carmen Ghia some really amazing thick cleans to it while keeping the EL84 sparkle alive and well.
High gain is where this amp thrives but its no one trick pony, does alot of in between tones as well. I'm looking forward to playing it thru my 1x10 Greenback and, if I can get it back from my son Michael, the 1x10 gold. I'm thinking the gold is really going to help bring some shimmer to this amp . . . . we'll see
God bless, Todd

It's a great amp. I loved mine best with the WGS G10CS. The Monza is a hard sound to replace....I haven't found a replacement yet actually. Congrats, is this your second time in a Monza?

Nice Todd, glad you're back to a Monza. This time with the M/V - Your comments on your first Monza, were what got me interested enough to get one. I alternate between a 2x10 w/Golds and a 2x10 w/Greenbacks. Great amp, congratulations. And now, there are 3 Z's in your signature...

This is actually my 3rd, one without MV that I had moded, one with and now this one with.
I have really missed that one of a kind flavor that this amp produces. Even at low volumes it sounds good.

I've been fortunate to own a few Z's over the last 10 years. I really enjoy the amps alot and of course this forum is the greatest place this side of Heaven.
Which do you prefer the Greenbacks or the Golds? I love the 10" speakers alot.

I think I like the Golds a little bit more. The bass response and chime win out over the Greenies. But with the Monza Drive knob, and the m/v - you can add a lot of grunt to the Greens. I really enjoy the way you can tweak the knobs and add girth and sustain to the tone. The Golds handle overdrive beautifully.

Todd great to have you back with a Monza. Let us know your impression with the gold. I have only ever played it with the red fang, the Cel. Anniv. and through both with one of your PCNS y cables.

I was using my first Monza with a red fang on the combo and a V30 12 in a Z convertible cab with a Y cable, sounded great. In order for me to try mine with my gold I will have to get it back from my son first! Considering he is much bigger than me now I may have to ask nicely

Todd, welcome back to Monza-ville. I was thinking of selling mine but I decided to put new tubes in first, and I'm really glad I did. I just changed V1 from JJ to a ANOS Sylvania 12AX7 and put a new Sovtek 12AX7 LPS in V2...what a huge difference in the way it cleans up. It's now got a beautiful clean tone and the overdrive tones got better too. Last week I got a pair of TAD EL84s and they really came alive with the preamp change. Been playing my new SG into it yesterday and lovin' it. It's never sounded so good. Might also be that the Red Fang is breaking in, or that it is the first time with the SG, but it really rocks now.

Just changed my Monza's power tubes tonight - what a treat! Mike, about how long do you get out of the power tubes in your Monza? Been about 6 months (probably 150-200 hours) of solid usage on mine, I think it's about time. I thought I'd get about a year, but it seems the Monza is a bit hard on tubes.

I had mine in at least a year - but then again, I have a number of different amps that I play.

I thought my Monza needed at least two changes a year on the tubes with regular playing...especially when the volume knob is up high. Seemed appropriate for its mightyness to be a bit tube hungry. I had the Monza twice and still think of that sweet overdrive....but Therapy IS helping.

Just picked up my 5th Z amp (Monza 1x10 combo w/ Red Fang and Brake-Lite), and I may have found the one!
Considering I only play in my basement and the occasional live venue with a stage the size of my dining room table, I find that this amp has plenty of clean headroom for my volume needs, a little bit of EL84 chime, and the ability to use my guitar volume instead of a drive pedal.
I know I am still on my honeymoon with this amp, but I am really impressed thus far. Doc nailed it with this design/format :-)

Hey Folks. This is Stoney from Germany. I feel privileged jangling between Maz8, Maz18 and Monza. Esp at home I could alternate between the 8 and the Monza all day long (as long as my wife lets me!) haha. I am very particular about speakers. My favorite combination is blue bulldog in my Maz8 cab (16ohm) with the G12M in the 1x12 box (8ohm). That delivers early break up, enough shimmer plus bottom. My dealer told me it's ok if I plug in an 8ohm speaker into 4ohm output plus a16 ohm speaker into the 8ohm output of the same Dr Z amp. So far they are still alive. Peace!

Hey half-bro. Glad to hear you are aware of your roots.
Changed tubes today: 5751 in V1 and JJ ECC83 S /gold in V2. AWESOME sound. Clean enough headroom. Dirt if needed for my Texas blues, with G12H30.
Might wanna dig the blue or gold speaker. Peace!
