If it is something you have not seen in a production amp I guess the rotary tone control must be something different than what the Badcats and Matchless have.

Rotary tone controls were around long before Matchless and Badcat (for example Orange had the F.A.C. knob). But I'm willing to wait and give doc the benefit of the doubt here. If he says it's like nothing we've seen before, I believe him!

64K question. What if anything is going into the discontinued zone?

I believe so. If it had the rotatry switch tone control then yes that was the DB 4. Z Doc, is there only the rotary switch for the tone control, or is there another control? I can't go into details but this tone control is a technique that I haven't seen in a production amp. It's a great idea and my hat's off to you for pulling it off. I think no one else has tried it because...well, because no one else is DR.Z. My bet is that it won't be long before the copy cats come out with a "revolutionary tone control". I hope that you can patent the design, (at least from the implementation side). Great job, sir! Dave there is another Tone control , that is CUT . So the DB 4 has three knobs, Volume, Rotary Tone, and CUT.
I am not the first to implement a Tone control with various Cap values to adjust overall frequency response. I actually looked to the Selmer Zodiac and it's push button tone select, like the push buttons of an old car radio, for inspiration.

64K question. What if anything is going into the discontinued zone? Well the DB 4 will take the place of the StangRay. Unfortunately we only sold 6 StangRay's in 2015, 5 combo's, 1 head.
I generally use the 2 a month number to determine the life of a product. Go below 24 a year and the model is on shaky ground.
Others that will be placed on hold are the KT 45 and the SRZ 65.

Doc's announcement mentioned 2x12 Cel Blue setup. So are we looking at 30 to 40 watts, perhaps? It seems we'll know more fairly soon since the amp now has its own section.

This convinces me to hang on to my 6545

When I think of "rotary tone control," I think a knob with 4-5 positions on the dial, each with different voicings...

Can we hope for a British racing green tolex with some chrome, or aluminium?!
Powerful, sounds incredible, and has a Z logo on it...I'll take one of each!

Funny enough, I was looking back at a 2006 thread when the Stingray had to change its name, and Dr Z hadn't decided yet what he was gonna do. Someone recommend the DB4 because of how cool the car is and that it has the Z in it. Now look all these years later.

Not being able to access the DB-4 amp section is killing me! Lol. Even though I know there's not any content in there, I still don't like getting the access denied message! Ha!

I know the preamp tubes are not the usual suspects (I believe pentode NOS 5789s?). I wonder if it's 4 x EL-84 or 6V6? If has a 1/2 power switch so it's likely 4 of something

Ok cool. Must have missed that one somehow. Hmmm.....in that pic above the gold beading is recessed. I wonder is that is the new DB4 since I don't recall and current Z with that type of cosmetics?

I wonder is that is the new DB4 since I don't recall and current Z with that type of cosmetics? damn you guys are good. Yes, Keith that is the top of the DB 4 2X12 "Bluesbraker" combo, Marshall finished with Gold beading. The combo is loaded with two Celestion Blues, and sounds like the Lord..... I originally built it for another project, which honestly I wasn't thrilled over. I installed the DB 4 chassis and two Blues and was knocked out by its sound. Brad was using a DB 4 head with a 2X12 extension cab for a year or so and loved it. Asked him how he liked the 2X12 combo after the first show using it, I received this text " Unbelievable.......Best sound ever....Seriously". Look for that quote on an up and coming DB 4 ad. Z

But, *this* I cannot wait to hear!

My vintage Orange Hustler has a 2xEL34 power amp and a rotary switch tone control. It is a nice clean sounding amp. It's nothing at all like a Marshall and it is a different kind of clean than a Fender. I'll be interested to see if there are any similarities between it and the DB 4.

FYI
Toward the end, Brad does a little "impersonation" of Dr Z.
