Hey all. I'm contemplating getting a Dote again, but I'm just trying to get a better idea of its tone. Can anyone compare it to other Z's? Particularly ones that I have played? Those would include:
Mini Z Maz 18 M12 Z28 Route 66 Stang Ray Monza
I'm very interested to know how it compares to the M12 actually. I know there is a massive volume difference there, but the M12 has been my favorite so far.

The Antidote is actually closest to Remedy and Therapy. We did a shoot-out at the last mini-fest and all three of these amps and they sounded pretty close. Of the ones you listed, the Route shares the same tubes (KT66s). Most of the rest in your list have EL84s. Also, at 45 watts the Dote has a much stronger, thicker sound IMO than those you listed. Plus I think the Dote is much more versatile than the other amps because of its Vintage/Modern switch and the blendable volume.

Stronger and thicker than the Route? I didn't think that would be possible....

Stronger and thicker than the Route? I didn't think that would be possible.... But yet they sound very different to me. I traded my Route for the Antidote. I hadn't played the Antidote before doing so. My initial reaction was that I thought I made a mistake. The Route had a very raw organic sound, the Antidote seemed to be more processed for lack of a better term. I think it has a lot to do with the tone stack and in particular the EF86 tube. I once said I thought the Antidote was a Maz 18 on steroids. I'm not sure that's fair to either amp. I am happy I made the switch to the Antidote.I like its tonal flexibility. I has equally strong and thick tones as the Route, they are just different. I like my od pedals I think a little more through the Antidote than the Rt66, but YMMV. I have never played a M12 but it also uses the EF86 and tone stack of the Route so I imagine a certain similarity to the RT. If the craigslist deal is good. I don't think you'd be disappointed. It is loud but I find it useable at low volumes. I also have a brake lite (not fond of this option) And I've tried the RC Boost as a means of taming it (better option in my opinion.)
