Hey guys, I'm missing my Strat but absolutely love the way my Teles feel. Plus, I love being able to switch to my Tele bridge pup when I really need some country feels. Thing is, to my ears there is no better sound than the sound of the neck position on the Strat (50s or 60s).
I don't have a guitar tech employed directly off stage to hand me another guitar really fast for quick guitar changes, so is it possible to get pretty close to the best of both worlds in one favorite guitar?
So far I can't find bad reviews on the Lollar Royal T neck pickup. Is there anybody who has experience with it or who doesn't like it? Good and bad opinions are welcome. Thanks!

I'd just put a Strat neck pickup in the Tele and put a pickguard routed for it on. I've done that on several Teles over the years. Depending on the Tele, there is often enough room in the normal route to do it. I also hung the Strat pickup from the pickguard rather than screw it into the body, ala a Tele. Part of the sound of any guitar is how the pickup is mounted. Hanging it also helps to get it to fit in the route.

Just another option, you could add a blend knob on a strat and get the tele middle position sound on the strat. Not sure if that will work for you but I like it on mine.

I haven't tried that particular pickup--though it's certainly tempting--but I've got various Lollars in five different guitars (plus a couple I've sold) and they all sound great. They've got good ears out there in Lollar-land--and if it sounds like a Strat and fits the existing rout, it'd be worth a try in my book. I love the Dirty Blonde Strat set especially, also the J-Street Tele bridge (matched with an Imperial low-wind in the neck)--and the Firebird is also pretty dang special. What I'm saying is, you can't go wrong!

IME, this is absolutely the best solution to the problem Good luck with whatever you decide!

Lollar has such a good reputation, I'm sure the royal t won't disappoint. Tell us what you end up with!

I just ordered the Royal T. It will be paired with a Fralin Blues Special bridge. This is my plan A and plan B will be to find a great Strat neck pup if the Royal T doesn't work out.
Hey Bill, would you consider the Royal T to be a hot pickup or somewhere in the middle? I know it's like 6.25K or something like that, but sometimes that doesn't tell me how hot a pup really is. Do you think it will pair up nicely with my Fralin BS bridge?

As always YMMV.

Talk about a thread resurrection.... I just installed a Royal T in my USA Standard Tele.m tonight. It’s paired with a Vintage T bridge pup. I installed the Vintage T on Monday and it’s now my favorite Tele bridge pup. I only got to sound test the Royal T to make sure everything was wired correctly before putting my pickguard and control plate back together. Are you guys still using your Royal Ts?

I have a Royal T in my K-Line Truxton along with a Vintage T bridge. It is a great combination. I would rate the Royal T as medium output but very clear and transparent much like a Strat Pickup but maybe not as much output. I just finished a Partscaster using a Suhr ML Classic Strat Pickup in the neck. I removed the white cover, and Taped the coils to prevent damage and did a little sanding around the edges of the pickguard and it slid into position with no problem. It sounds great!,but I love Lollar Tele pickups, I have them in 4 of my Teles. I like the Vintage T neck almost as much as the Royal T,
