Yup. I found one that is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, a little mom-and-pop store around here is going out of business. They are having a 40% off new items sale today only and closing the doors tonight. They were a JHS pedals dealer. I picked up an angry Charlie. Oh my! This thing is absolutely superb with the Ray, IMO. If you're looking for some nice thick heavy distorted tones, I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm very pleased and frankly, quite surprised at how amazing it sounds with the Ray. Do yourselves a favor and check one out!

When I had my 'ray, I had to be careful with overdrive/distortion pedals. The 'ray already has pretty scooped mids, and adding a lot of overdrive to that made it sound very 'mesa' to me.
Glad you're happy with yours.

Right on Greg. I have been loving my JHS-AC for well over a year now with my Ray. I do love the Z-drive with it as well. In fact in my opinion the red side(high gain) side of the z-drive sounds a lot like the Angry Charlie but with more options on tone. They sound great stacked together too!

It's hard to say for sure without speaker considerations, but a tube screamer is a especially nice flavor. The Timmy kicks arse with these too. The ocd might be too bass heavy, but ymmv.

Kingsley anything. Minstrel, Harlot, Paige.....Simon is the man I recently watched a That Pedal Show with the maker of the Kingsley pedals. My goodness do those things sound terrific! I especially liked the Minstrel. FWIW, I also watched a TPS on the Angry Charlie as I wasn't quite sure that I was digging it anymore with my Ray. Dan talked about how he liked it with the presence near or at all the way up. I tried it - he was right! I presumed it would just be too much top end with the Ray, but I was wrong. Sounds brilliant! But, this is the Stang Ray section so, alas: Hello, Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home?

I have a love/hate relationship with distortion pedals.... I want one for the "hard rocker" in me, but they all tend to have too much low end and usually either too bright or too dark. I've tried about 50-60 different distortion pedals over the past 8 years. The Wampler Pinnacle lasted the longest, but even it still had too much low end. Over the past 3-4 months, I went on distortion pedal frenzy... About 20 of the ones I mentioned I've had, above, were had over the past 4 months. What I found, was like you, the JHS Angry Charlie V.3 was the pedal I was looking for the whole time! I also ended up with an XTS Atomic Overdrive, which I like more, but has less gain (but not much less). I couldn't decide which one to put on my board, so I put both on.

Yeah - not sure what it is about the Angry Charlie and the Ray - they just work together! I'd like to try the JHS @ pedal too...... I actually got the @ pedal first, I didn't like it... Too much low end, so I sold the @ to get an Angry Charlie v.3 with the bass, mid, treb control and liked it quite a bit better. The @ did compress more and have more dirt on tap, in 25wt mode, and was a little more open and "Brown" in the 100wt mode. 50wt mode was supposed to be about "stock" on the AC v.2. I sold the @ to a buddy of mine that sometimes visits this forum. Last I spoke to him, he hadn't had a chance to play it live, but said it was "darker" than he expected at home (he currently plays a Morgan AC20 and AC20 Deluxe).

Think I'll stick with what I've got that works. No need to poke the sleeping bear....
