Looking for insights and experience. I had a Telemaster put together last year with a mini-humbucker in the neck position. Right off the bat I had a DiMarzio Vintage Mini-bucker thrown in the neck, and I really dig it. I have it wired for coil tapping, and I like that option.
I started out with a Seymour Duncan Antiquity in the bridge, and I found it very thin and not as balanced with the neck p/u in terms of volume.
I tried a SD Lil '59 stacked 'bucker in single coil size next, but I'm just not digging it. I'm getting some squeal at relatively low volumes when I have dirt or fuzz kicked on. I'm ready to move on and try something different. I have a G&L ASAT Classic that I bought second hand loaded with some Peter Florance pickups, and they sound phenomenal. I could just order one of his bridge pickups, but I'm thinking about trying something by Don Mare or Kinman and going back to a single coil. I talked to Don, and he suggested ordering one of his Green Onion winds. I looked at what Kinman has and I could go for the Broadcaster or Bridge Blaster. I've listened to some demos of all of these, and I could use some help from someone who has tried any of these.
Volume and tone pots are 500k, and I think that should work fine but let me know if you think otherwise. I play cleans, use some light OD and thicker fuzzes at times. I play mostly alt-rock and indie type stuff, and the M12 is my workhorse. I'd like a balance of bass and twang and output that would go well with the mini-hum neck p/u.
I really appreciate anything you guys have to say!!!
