I know many are not into the whole relic scene and I get that.
I however do like them when they are done well and not over-done like many of the heavy-relic jobs that I've seen.
Relic's are perfect for me because I am an animal. There I said it. I am the proverbial bull in a china shop and will bump, drop, scrape and reek all manner of mayhem on my guitars. So having these nicks, gouges, scratches etc. done already is very therapeutic for me.
The problem for has always been the price associated with the Fender Custom Shop and boutique builders relic offerings.
I first laid my hands on a Fender Road Worn Strat at a Guitar Center during a business trip and I was very impressed by the sound but more more impressed by the feel of the guitar. The neck was very comfortable for me, I mean VERY comfortable and quite similar to the awesome neck my Rory Gallagher Tribute Strat.
At the time I wasn't ready to buy that Olympic White beauty and had regretted not doing so as when I finally got around to addressing the GAS to own one they had long been discontinued with the Olympic White models being a rare find indeed. So I decided to build my own (and third) with a Road Worn body and 60's Road Worn Players Strat Neck (9.5" radius, medium jumbo frets) and upgrade it with Fender Custom Shop '69 Abby pickups, CTS pots, Orange Drop cap and a mint pickguard....Nice (better pic's in another thread).
I thought about picking up a Nash but #1- I had my heart set on a white Strat with a maple neck and #2-I wasn't going to spend more than $900 ('cause I need another guitar like a need another amp or hole-in-the-head. I ended up spending $905 in parts).
I first picked up a '72 Road Worn Telecaster Deluxe and slapped a set of Lollar Regal Wide Range pickups. This guitar remains one of my personal fav's. Next was a 50's Road Worn Telecaster which also rocked. Both guitars were purchased on the forum Buy and Sell - you gotta love this place!
So are there any Road Worn's out there? Mine are the three on the floor (if you haven't guessed already). Let's have a look at yours. Fender Road Worn's only please (no Custom Shop, Nash, custom build, etc) ...
