Had some time in the basement this weekend, with all the snow, so I recorded this one: soundcloud.com/the-opera-panther/snowzillaIt was generally my usual setup with one exception: Both electric guitars were recorded direct/silently through a Suhr Reactive Load. It is a fantastic piece of gear. I got that and a package of cab/mic impulse responses, which has served me really well over the past few months. Basically, it's amp>reactive load>cab/mic sim into Logic. I can practice with great tone through my studio monitors or headphones. So, the Rhythm guitar is Grosh Tele>Ghia>Das Vurb (pedal)>Jensen P12R 1x12 miked with a Royer 121. The lead was my Grosh ElectraJet>Swart AST> 4x12 Greenbacks (don't remember mic). Seriously, I cannot speak highly enough about the Reactive Load. It make recording guitars really easy. You can also hear my terrible keyboard (and horns!) skills on this track. Anyhow, enjoy!

Thanks! Really can't say enough about the Reactive Load. It makes recording guitars (and bass) super easy. And, when playing through monitors, it "feels" like an amp, because it is! I had an old 11rack that I liked the sound of, but it never felt right - basically, right hand dynamics and the volume knob on the guitar did nothing. With the RL, you can use both of those techniques, and they show up in your recorded tone. The other cool thing is, I'll track with basically the first cab/mic sim I see, but when I go to mix, I can choose a different cab/mic/mic placement (forgot about that part) to better fit the sound I'm looking for. So, I might record a V30 with an SM57 on the cone/grill, but at mix, decide that a Vox Silver Bell with a Neumann U87 on the cap edge a foot away is better. These are the cab/mic IRs I am using. www.redwirez.com/I know I sound like a shill for Suhr at this point, but I love this thing so much. Its even great for playing along to backing tracks at reasonable volume.

Pretty cool! Nice feel! I had not heard of the Suhr box or the cab/mic IRs. I did some experimenting a few years back, but could not find something that I liked. I ended up at home with my Randall IsoCab which is stuffed in the basement allowing quiet recording up here in the studio. It's nice to know that there's good stuff out there. Your Summertime Blues just kicked in. Now that I think about it, I like this tune much more just because it doesn't have the word 'Snow' in it.

Thanks, glad you dig!
I'll stop shilling for Suhr now, but honestly, I have not miced a cab in months, and haven't really noticed a difference.
So, I need to get better at naming songs is what you're saying.

Thanks, Lee! I don't do the band thing right now, so this is how I keep the music going through me!
