Have a white headlight on there do ya Mike? Practicing the windmills? Slightly jealous but I still have most of my hearing.

Howdy, I'd love to tune my LP Special (P-90s) to open G and fire away at "Brown Sugar" through a KT-45! Congrats and I'd like to read a tone report

Re-awakening this thread a bit, because I got to play this KT-45 at Mike's house during Z-Fest. What a gorgeous-sounding amp! Whereas many would prefer the Route 66 between these two, this one really grabbed my attention (I didn't intend to start A/B comparing them, but that's what I ended up doing). I now remember the first time I played the KT side of Mike's 65/45, too--not sure why I ever took my sights off this fantastic all-around amp.
You can probably expect me to resurrect another old thread elsewhere today, as I've found some particularly accurate comments about the KT's sonic signature that I'd like to validate...

Interesting Mark...why do you think many would prefer the 66? Well, it's partly an assumption based popular demand, I guess--especially since Doc stopped making the '45 whereas the '66 is still going strong (I assume). But most in the room at the time of my comparison (i.e., those who could tolerate my loud, obnoxious riffing) seemed to like the 66 better, likely due to its mid-heavy, big-soft-fist-of-overdrive character. Definitely "milkshake thick," and impressive for sure. However, my tastes leaned towards the wider, flatter-response (and firmer, deeper low end) of the 45. Plus, I found the noticeably greater clarity of the 45 to work much better with my Les Paul (standard setup w/Lollar Imperials), a guitar that seems to work best with all Doc's EF86/3-knob amps. All of this was compared using a Celestion Heritage G12-65 in an empty 1x12 combo cab (open back).

It's excellent for what I would call "big clean," and kind of reminds me of a BF Twin or Showman in that way. I've actually used it with my archtop for jazz because of this. For the uninformed, just remember that it stays clean way up the knobs; once it starts giving up the goods, it's LOUD.

Hmmm.....KT-45, eh ? If I recall I thought Phil once said it was his favourite amp with a Strat.

In my experience, it's also very good with a Telecaster.

I've played mine with a Les Paul with burstbuckers, a Les Paul w/P90's, a Tele and a stock Strat. They all sounded awesome through the KT, but I especially like the Strat and Tele tones I was getting. There's a certain tonal complexity that just sounds amazing.
