Met MiketheBike today and we worked a deal on a swap between my RT66 and his Antidote. Good thing we met at Cabela's as I was able to buy an extra tough pair of big boys. The two amps are very different. I will miss the RT66, but this Antidote is definitely going to be fun. I've only had a short time to play it, but the cleans are big and rich. Into a 1x12 open back Convertible Z with Creamback the low notes hit hard with authority. Into the 2- 2x10's closed back the bass was less pronounced but still nice and tight. Haven't tried the Z-Best yet. I think the break-up of this amp is smoother than the RT66.Hard to put the difference into words, but I think a lot of it has to do with the EF86 and the tone stack of the 66 as opposed to the Antidotes layout. Ideally I would own both, but alas that would be fiscally irresponsible. BTW Mike is a good guy with whom to deal.

Get ready for a "kick in the chest" when you run it through your Z Best!

The Antidote is in my top 3 Zs! Congrats on a great amp. Just curious; what are the other two? Your comment elsewhere about it being a favorite was influential.

Probably my favorite is the prototype #1 RX - there is just something about that amp that is really special. Second is my Maz 38 Super Z/ Invasion. Both in the same tone family but a little more grit in the Invasion - the Super Z is a little sweeter to my ears. The Antidote can cover a lot of ground that Remedy and Therapy cover - just takes a little dialing in but it's extremely versatile!

I was surprised how different it sounded than the RT66 in spite of the KT66 tubes. I suspect the EF86 is the primary reason. At times it reminds me of my MAZ18 on a extreme dose of steroids. But then play with the two volume controls and the break-up is so smooth. Thank goodness for the brake-lite because it packs a wallop. I never bonded with the brake-life in the lower watt amps, but this amp uses it well.

I have had an Antidote for the past 3 weeks. I have been a long time user of JTM45 (KT 66) and a Vox AC30HW. The speaker cabinet I am using with this amplifier is a Vox 2x12 HW with Celestion Golds. Some of the outstanding points for me is that it really blends the JTM and VOX very well however you can feel the "thump" from the speakers when you strike a chord. It is extremely versatile in terms of response to pick attack and dynamics. I play a Thinline Deluxe and a Les Paul Custom through this amp and it handles them both really well. I am still playing around with different settings to get the most out of it. I do not use an attenuator but do use an amp shield and in the most (volume sensitive venue) I play at, this worked well. This beast goes from Buck Owens to Motörhead with ease. Later y'all.
