Just got a new Therapy head with a 1-12" Z Cab, I am hearing some hiss from the amp, not while I am playing but when idle. I have not had a good tube amp in years so this might be normal.

Normal. If you can't hear it when you are playing, don't worry about it. They all hiss some. Depending on the tubes that happen to end up in it, some more than others. Remember you are dealing with what is in essence, 1950s technology. All tube stuff hissed back then. That's how you knew it was on after the pilot light burned out.

Thanks for the feedback, what I thought. I will take some hiss and great tone over the alternative.

I agree with Marc. And sometimes if the hiss gets excessive it can be due to oxidation in the tube sockets. A quick application of Deoxit can really quiet things down sometimes FWIW.

My Therapy "wakes up" when the master volume gets somewhere between 2:30 and 3 o'clock. This is good news though because 3 o'clock is nearly cranked all the way...try doing that with other master volume amps. At that level I can hear it breathing when playing by myself, not with a band. I'm not sure how loud the hiss is you speak of but if it's loud enough to be heard with a band, somethings not right.

it should not hiss to the point that it becomes an issue. Dimed, you will get some white noise, but with clean power and good tubes, it should be dead quiet to at least half volume if not more. At least thats my exp. with this amp. With all my amps actually. I can;t speak for Dr. Z but I don;t believe he designs them with built in hiss...lol..check preamps,V2,PI for fit and microphonics..actually in mine, its a real chore just to get the tubes out!...them boys are seated for the rough run...

I reset all the tone controls to 12:00 and no hiss. I had the Treble up past 4:00 and when I brought it back down to 12:00 all the hiss was gone...still learning the amp!
