Any recommendations for a quality clean boost for use with the Monza??? I was thinking about checking out the Mini Katana or the Xotic EP Booster. With the Monza dialed in as aggressively as I have it, the Z Drive seems to make the Monza clip a little harder than I like. This is usually where my Monza sits, standby switch up, of course...

I think any additional boost will only squash it more....compression happens at that level of pre amp saturation. Maybe turn the master up and back off the guitar volume a bit. Keep the additional volume for the boost .

The EP Booster is fantastic, but it adds some low mids, which can make it a little bit muddy into an already distorted amp... Plus it can pop quite a lot when switching. I do love mine, fabulous to give body and fatness to my Clone... but I'm looking for a Katana Mini to come, just to be sure.

I'm running one of Shane's RYRA Klones into mine. Like simpleton said you do have to accommodate for it somewhere, so I run my amp volume and drive way down and the master pretty high. I run the pedal clean with the treble enhanced just a tad. Killer fat, yet somewhat clean tones.

The green channel on the Z Drive will do what I need to do if I back the pedal drive way down and adjust the volume accordingly. However, it conflicts with how I use the Z Drive with the Maz in a two amp set up.
I've been rolling back on the guitar volume now, which is why I keep the volume and drive relatively high. I never thought about going the other way...
I love these amps. They've made me a much better player over the last two years than I've ever been over the course of my twenty year career.

When I was doing a stereo rig with the Ghia and Monza I finally came to the conclusion that I like the Monza by itself more than with pedals and so primarily I just run it dry. If I want an effect I'll run it in conjunction with the other amp and let the other amp be wet while Monza stays dry. Like you, playing Z amps has assisted my playing over the years as well as my understanding of working my gear. The stereo rig thing wasn't as straight forward as I expected it to be, but after some months of toying with different set ups, speakers ect.... I finally found a stereo sound that I really like. It was different than I thought it would be in the fact that I use the Monza dry and the other amp wet like I already said....any ways it took a bit to work it out. Keep having fun.

The last thing I ever thought of was boosting the Monza...but I can see how this setup would work out great! I'm getting my Headbone amp switcher in the mail today, so I've been thinking that I'll run the Klone/Monza for leads and the Z-Lux combo for rhythm, sharing the Z-12 speaker between the two amps. I bet that's going to be a killer setup. Thanks for the post, irreversal, and all who replied...this is a great subject and I love learning how others do it!

You can never have too much boost, Dave!!!
I got to thinking while using my wah. I have the CAE wah with the built MXR MC-401 Boost/LineDriver and it sounds killer with the Monza. I have the boost dialed in at +3DB and it just gives it that little extra oooomph for those Cantrell-esque solos...

Sheesh, now you've got me thinking about the buffer/boost on my Clyde Deluxe Wah. I usually run that unity gain. Gotta try tweaking that a bit too.

If you put a lower gain (than 12ax7) tube in V1 of the Monza you should be able to boost the front end more before it squishes.
My favorite "boost" is the old Boss GE7 eq. It can boost flat and even or not.

Something's telling me to give that new Xotic Scott Henderson RC Booster a shot.
I'm going to have a tube party this weekend and try out a bunch of different 12AX7's.

A few weeks ago, I picked up the Keeley Oxblood for its ability to be used as a clean boost, and also for its versatility in the various forms of additional overdrive it offers. The videos certainly live up to the hype.
The Oxblood and the Maz are a match made in heaven, but let me tell you, at first, I wasn't digging it with the Monza. In any setting, it was just slamming the front end and causing a fuzzy mess. Enter the Mullard CV4004 12AX7. I've made a few changes to my Monza since acquiring it - it now has a Creamback M in it, as well as a Gold Lion 12AX7 in V1. As Paul said above, the lower gain Mullard now in V1 lets you push the front end of the Monza a little harder with a drive pedal. The Oxblood is up to the challenge.
It takes an already over the top amp like the Monza and multiplies it by 1,000. I couldn't imagine the Monza being any more fun to play through, but the Oxblood makes it damn near impossible to turn it off. The harmonics, the sustain, the gain......I gotta get back to playing...
