My Therapy may live its last moments in my company. I really hope I will not regret it, but I can't have 3 amps in one small apartment, so I had to let it to in order to get the new Z-Lux I should get in a few days. I did something stupid though: I played it yesterday (I had it almost hidden since I decided to sell it)... and it sounded just great! Now I have really high expectations about the Z-Lux... But I'm sure I'll be more than happy with this amp, just as I am with my Maz 8 since the first day (and even more since the day I installed a Scumback Scumnico inside! ) What would have you done if you had to choose between Therapy and Z-Lux?

Well fortunately I did not have to decide, and kept both. But now I'm looking at the others here and thinking that for a guy who is not gigging, I'm getting a little fat on amps again. But I just don't think I could part with Charlene.

But I just don't think I could part with Charlene. I have been fat on amps for a while. But I would rather be fat than lean on tones and amp sizes for gigs. Or whatever. I am not gigging right now either. I can't really pick which ones to get rid of. I love them all. Keep what you can and move on what you need to when you must. Paul G.

I did the same thing with the last Z28 I sold. I plugged it to make sure all was well and I almost called Mark to tell him the deal was off because it sounded soooo good

I'm a home player much like yourself. I have not heard a Z-Lux in person. I home auditioned a Therapy a while back.
If it were me I'd lean towards the Z-Lux if for no other reason than that reverb and tremolo when you want to have a little fun,
However, I also buy all heads/cabs so I'd keep both since one more head cab will not take up much more room !
If I get a new Z amp any time soon it will be a Z-Lux head.

The grass is always greener on the other side....just keep the one that fits and miss the other one. It'll give you something to talk about with us as for me, I think I would pick Therapy over Z Lux....because I have a Therapy and like it's simple design, 6L6 tubes that are a little bolder than 6V6 as far as tones...but really how can you how can you go wrong with the Z Lux in a lite cab with 40 watts available? Plus Joe Walsh says it's his best sounding amp...pretty sure he knows tone.

That's the conundrum, isn't it? We are so much alike here...we want 'em all! ALL OF 'EM!!! I am fortunate enough to have them both, and the space to keep them. When it's time to pick for the gig though, the problem pops up again, which one to load up??? The Z-Lux got the call for the last several dates, but it's tough. I love them both...

Like Dave, I'm fortunate to have both. If I had to go with one, it would be the Z-Lux because the combo format it comes in is just so well suited to my gigs for tone and form factor.

Thanks for you support, I appreciate! I guess the best solution would have been to have both (I mean the 3 of them, cause my Maz 8 isn't going anywhere ) at home and take my time to decide. That's what I've done about pedals in the last weeks. I've shootout delays, than overdrives and boost, whas and last fuzz and now I have a very simple pedalboard that fits my needs... and let me focus on playing the guitar. But amps take way more space! The Therapy should be gone tonight and I guess my Z-Lux should be here at the end of the week. It's true that the combo size and the trem and verb had played a role in my decision (actually I've been through a Strymon Flint and thought: okay now I need my amp to have such a warm trem and wonderful reverb).

I'm with ya on this. Love the Therapy, but I'm looking at the Z-Lux or even a Maz in a studio sized combo (8 or 18) because of where i play, and what I play, a combo is much better. Good luck!!!

Therapy's gone, baby. Awww, man...it'll be okay...the Z-Lux tone, tremolo, and reverb are gonna put the Strymon to shame. But I would hate to part with my Therapy!

I don't use trem or reverb, never have since about 1970, so my Therapy stays here.
BUT: my KT probably may need to go.
I know what you mean.

If I had a big house outside Paris, I wouldn't even have thought selling my Therapy. But in a small apartment in Paris, in which my amps stand in the living room (which we try to keep as pretty as possible - my wife works as a decoration designer ), I can stand to have one (if it looks cool enough) and maybe another one in the bedroom (and then switch between one and the other from time to time). For such a utilisation, (blonde) combos fit way more my needs. For now, my main concern is all about the general volume of the Z-Lux and its master. I do know it will not be as efficient as the Therapy's, but I do hope that the master plus the Brake Lite I ordered will let me enjoy all the tones this amp have to offer. Answer really soon!

The Z-Lux gives total control over the volume. I've got a Brake Lite but aside from trying it out once, I've never had the need to use it with the Z-Lux. The amp's master volume is perfect. Easyrom, your wife sounds very cool. Especially for a decoration designer. Or, she's got great taste in guitar amps (and gentlemen)!

I concur with Dave. Although the Z-Lux Master is not a PPIMV like in the Therapy, I've found it very effective. To be sure, tone changes as one cranks it up, but the tone at low settings remains superb.

For me I think my challenge would not be Z Lux or Therapy, but Z Lux or Z28................ and I have a funny feeling the Z Lux would win that argument pretty easily, simply because I can get most of what the Z28 can do from the Therapy, mostly anyway, but the Z Lux in its combo form, would give me a wider palette to paint from. However, all this is purely theoretical!! It will be a LONG time before I could even consider a change like that, financially, so I'll stick with what I've got, and thank my lucky stars!!

Spent some quality time with both amps last night. I dig them both in a big way. They are not the same thing, so I will enjoy having both for sure. It did make me realize that I've been enjoying playing the Z-Lux so much I've never bothered to try full power, nor the Airbrake. More testing to do there I think - it's just the sounds have been so enchanting as I have it set that I've not felt a need to explore. Charlene says the only therapy I need is more tone.

I'll keep reading everything I can about it in the next days, cause my Z-Lux will finally arrive at the end of next week. God it's long! Will I even remember the sound of my therapy then? (ok, that I will, for sure! )

EZ, you're down to single digit days now. That's great! I bet I'm not the only Z-bro that is pulling for that shipment to get to you sooner rather than later! It won't be long now, buddy...

Pete, I either put my Ghia on top of my Z28 1x10 w/ Gold combo, add a HeadBone and a 1x12 Mesa open back cab, or put my Rati and Therapy on top of the same Mesa cab with a HeadBone and a 2x12 cab with Vin30s.
For me, there is very little to argue about.

Yes it's been closer and closer... and harder and harder! Really hope that I will be able to have it at the end of next week, cause my guitar day is monday.

I did like the Therapy a lot. But the Z-Lux fits my needs and taste even more. I love the sound, the look, the combo format, and god these reverb and tremolo! So, no regrets so far.

I never played through the theraphy. Only heard clips. It sounds great and like an amp I would love. But I can only agree that the Z-Lux combo Is a gig and home friendly amp. What more do you need?
More Z Amps! I know it never ends.....
