Seems as though the seller was able to borrow another camera.

He says he bought it from Fatsound and lists the serial number as Q-etc.. Fatsound should be able to say if this info is correct and if I was at Fatsound I'd contact the person who bought that amp and see if it's legit.

Wish he'd post a pic of the "actual" front of the amp. The back looks oriented correctly, the serial number looks good...its shaping up to be a legit sale, just a doctored pic of the amp front, for whatever reason.

Well looks like he might just be legitimate!
It still puts a smile on my face that there is watchful eyes out there from this forum.
It truly is great to be a Z' club member, we are all here because we value old school workmanship, assembly and quality parts that are second to none, an owner of the company that has a service and repair/warranty system that leaves the big boys like Fender and Marshall for dead and tone, tone and more tone. I bought my first Z' because I was dissapointed with the new Vox AC30 and wanted to return to the old ways of point to point and great tone without paying an arm and a leg. I'm only 37 on June 28th but never really got into floyd rose wammys, rack systems with harmonizers and power conditioners etc. etc playing a re-issue Jap strat all through my youth and a couple of early 70's L.P's and I still only use a few pedals on my board. I drive an old 64' VW Beetle thats been restored, still open doors for women and could never rip off any one. I guess we all got a little paranoid when we saw the STINGRAY come up on Ebay. It looked very suspect and I even cancelled my bid. It's kinda sad that there are people out there preying on unsuspecting bargain hunters, I myself got ripped off $500 on a Roland sound canvass. Anyway I am rambling on again, but I thank all of you for jumping on something that might have cost me more than $500 if it had been a fake, like I sad it's great to have a bunch of brothers out here on the forum that look after each other and love such a great bunch of amps. I know next time one comes up,where I'll come before i bid.
Hats of to you Mike Z' for making these great amps........and thanks for the Z forum.

I sent the seller this message Hi,
Thanks for responding to my First question, and THANK YOU for editing and putting up some more pics on your auction. Please don't take this the wrong way, and I do appologize for being very cautious, but I am curious to know why you didn't just say you used Imagegear to make the image for your auction out of a head and cab?? I can understand that if thats the only way you have to get an image on there, but that did cause some concern...
I have a Stingray Head and would LOVE a combo so I'll be watching it to see if it goes above what I'm willing to pay, some of the guy's would pay more than me because they DON'T already have one.
I DO Hope you have a very sucessful auction, I know a bunch of guy's that would pay TOP DOLLAR for that amp and the only thing I see that will keep it from going as high as it should is that there is no way to use a secure payment... otherwise there's no telling what that would sell for.
Good luck
JasonI am glad it turned out this way, and I WOULD be willing to buy it for a FAIR price but only if I could drive up there and pick it up, look at the amp, hand him the money... but thats just my personal feelings... I've just seen too much shady stuff, and I am very glad it looks legit... I think somebodys probably just gonna take a chance on it and get a great amp. Jason BTW I WILL call E-bay and let them know that it looks to be legit... but I'm sure they're already watching it and know whats going on so...

I think I'd wait until Fatsound has responded, he said he would. If it is legit then somebody might get a good deal on it because others may think it's fake too. Hey Groovergeorge: '64 Beetle huh? Good for you. I've got a '59 with the ragtop sunroof. It's only got 72,000 miles on it. It's mostly original except for a repaint and new running boards. Some of the carpet is new but the headliner ands upholstery is original as is the running gear. It's had a brake dragging so I haven't driven it for a couple of years. I'm going to take it in for a brake overhaul and hopefully they'll be able to put a dual master cylinder on it. If you're still running 6 volts like I am try one of the dry cell batteries to stop the corrosion under the seat.

The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing.
I had also emailed him asking him to provide a picture of the front of the amp because the existing picture appeared to be fake. It will be interesting to see if he relists it or not.

Says the seller ended the listing early due to an error in the listing... I got a reply from the seller that said "thanks" and that he would post a pic of the front of the amp as well..sooo maybe he's gonna relist it and start over fresh... which is fine, and YES billy I'd definitely wanna hear from fat sound if this is the guy they sold the amp to, would make me feel better about bidding and it's always ok to still be cautious... interested to see how it turns out. AS THE Z TURNS... DAY'S OF OUR Z's..... ALL MY DR'Z.... the YOUNG and the RESTLEZZ I think we're all fanatical about Z's... guess I'd just rather be crazy about Dr Z's than over other things...

This guy doesn't deserve to sell the amp. Frankly, the AMP deserves a better owner, imo.
Here's how this guy COULD have done things the right way if he's legit.
1) Contact STU via email and ask for permission to use the 'Ray pic he has on his site-- explain that you intend to eBay a 'Ray and have no digicam.
2) Post Stu's pic in your auction WITH NO PHOTOSHOPPING.
3) In the auction, POINT OUT THAT THE PIC IS NOT A PIC OF THE ACTUAL AMP, but rather it is "representative of the actual amp."
4) Show the amp to a local Z dealer and ask for their help in exchange for a cut. I'm sure a local Z dealer wouldn't mind helping out with pics for a small percentage.
On and on-- there are just SO MANY things that could have been done better that this guy doesn't deserve any trust-- whether his is consciously attempting to defraud or simply just a clueless eBay noob is irrelevant imo.
I'd say a person has to be pretty clueless to think they are going to sell a $1K+ amp with no pics, or worse FAKE ONES!!!!

Wow....this is too cool! We've got some very astute members here on the Z forum. I saw the Ebay listing, but didn't look at the photo very closely.
Great detective work guys!!!!!

Hi Again Folks, I contacted the seller, got his name and checked my records. I don't know why he Photoshopped a shot from my website, but I assume it seemed like a good idea at the time! Bottom line is that this is a legit auction by a Stingray owner who originally purchased the amp from my shop.
Go get it!

I reckon this guy has the amp and didn't have access to a digital camera, so he just did a little photoshop job to get the job done, and has told a little "fib" to cover it. I'm glad this is the case, restores my faith a little. There's going to be some serious bidding going on when it comes back!

Hey Groovergeorge: '64 Beetle huh? Good for you. I've got a '59 with the ragtop sunroof. Ahh, I'm sensing a spinoff post here! I just had to junk my Orange VW Kombie after 15 years of service and rust. Too many trips to the beach. My favorite car in the world. Now Groover, why doesn't it suprise me that someone from Byron Bay is driving a VW! ;D Hey, BTW, my sister works in the ABC bookshop in Byron, pop in and say hi, she'll be the blonde one making someone laugh!

I am sorry for your loss, tas. Orange, to boot?! What a shame.
(Here's your spinoff.)
FWIW, I learned to drive on a 1964 1/2 VW Karmann Ghia that my folks bought right before they got married (and 4 years later I drove my first "Z", a 280ZX Datsun, BTW!). Little did they know that ghia, or the "little car", as they called it, would be used for years and years! Mom and Dad wouldn't buy it until Dad figured out that it would carry his drum set, trap case, and cymbals and stands!
Dad had his Ghia converted to 12 volts and had a 1600 cc duel carb Porsche engine put in. It just purred when he would drive in from work! In total, we all drove that car for a total of 27 years! He restored it once after Mom got hit in it by a semi in 1980. I drove it in high school like my brother before me. My brother and I drove it to Georgia after I graduated and wrecked it irreparably in 1992.

I changed the 6 volt to a 12,and replaced the steering wheel with a smaller wooden one. It got a re-spray a few years ago in a BMW blue colour, being a Fender nut, I'm saving my cookies to get the rust cut out. As I live by the ocean you are always battling rust and then here comes 64' Bug in Lake Placid Blue. There is a white Carmen Ghia that gets around my town in immaculate condition,I'd love that baby but I'm quite happy with what I have got. I had a new 2000 model when they first came out here and it drove great, but just didn't have the charachter of my old one. Hey I'd love an old Mustang in fiesta red as well but with the price of petrol these days the Beetle is king. It's so suited to where I live,we have no traffic lights in my town,it takes me 7 minutes to get to work and10 minutes to get to the beach. It can get up to 70 miles per hour relatively quick and I drive it down heaps of dirt roads without worrying about chipping paint like on a new car.
Oh by the way Tas,I'll pop into the ABC shop as soon as I get a chance and say hi to your sister.
