I'm looking for a tight sound with strong mids and some chime when I want it. I think this'll be as close as I'll ever get. I'm stoked!

Just to clarify my previous post, I did not mean to imply any negative concerning Z's delivery times etc....my point was that the dealers policys were to me anyway, unfair to the customers. It just does not sit well with me that they would keep 500.00 and then sell the amp at street price, in effect doubling their profit....I suppose from a strickly business standpoint thats called maximizing your profits, from a personal stand point I call it stealing....sorry, just MHO

Unethical for sure. Maybe Z should have a talk with them before all of the potential Z buyers in Austin black-ball them.

Hm cluelessness? I guess about the Ray itself and how good it sounds? anyway Dude I never thought of it that way about the money I mean. Maximising profits. I don't know if I have all of my facts right or not But all I know is I asked for my money back and they would not fully refund it. So why would I try and get it back when I would be out that much money. I guess I'm clueless for that. But I should be getting what I paid for next week. But I am actually not from Austin, I am from Huntsville which is about 60 miles north of Houston. And I must admight that I've been around quite a few guitar shopes in Houston making friends at everyone but never really felt love at Guitar rez. I remember when I went in there I tried to pick up a guitar and play on a perscription es that they had and one of the workers told me I couldn't play on that guitar and I couldn't play on that amp. Yet there where 40 year old men with the same guitars in there hands at the same time.
I remember looking around a looking back at the guy and saying your kinding, right. I am only 26 years old and really didn't look like I had as much money (and don't ) as the old man with a job but I can say that they really got nice when I slaped down 2400 dollars for the ray.
I know these guys are considered jerks by many guitar store owners standards and I probably will not do business with them again. So whatever you feel like doing is up to you.
But I must say that suppressing anyone God given right to play and learn music at anytime on any guitar in the store is a tragedy.

I learned a very long time ago never to judge a book by its cover, or a customer by the "cut of his/her jib"...where I am from is very rural, and there are lots of farmers, dairy, beef, apple, corn, you name it....and sometimes they don;t "look the part" until they make up their minds, and say "I'll take that".."Don;t you want to know how much it is?"..."No, thats alright, just get it ready, I will pay now, and come back to pick it up later"...."Well, sir, its $3500.00, plus tax, how would you like to pay?"..."I would like to pay now, is the reply, Do you still take cash?"..."Yes sir I do, cash is always fine with me, as a matter of fact I can discount the price equal to the amount that the credit card company would charge me in fees back to you"..."Well, thank you but thats not necessary, I will pay what you are asking, you have to live too"..."Would you like a hand loading that?".."No, I will bring my own help to load it, not your job, Its mine now, its up to me to get it where I want it"....."Are you sure?" "We deliver for free..."You can;t make a livin' in business doin' stuff for free all the time...when you go to the store and by my milk, you pay what the price is, or you don;t thats up to you...the same applies here...and I appericate all of your help, I will be back later to pick up my stuff, and remember what I said"..."I will, and thanks!",,,,"Sure thing, and I will do more business with you in the future and I;ll tell my friends.... thats the best advertising you can get....remember, it works both ways!"...and out the door he went....that man spent 20K in my store...and all his friends became customers as well....true story.....I never forgot what I learned from that...it has served me very well over the years...very well.....

A guy I knew that was part owner of a store said he never bothered with guys with toothpicks. He said they had just had dinner and just came in the store for entertainment. He probably had a valid point but it just takes one person to buy something and you never know who that'll be, well mostly. There was another store I used to hang out at and real regularly this nutty looking guy would come in, grab a guitar, turn it up a little too loud and wank away for 30 minutes, terrible playing. I couldn't stand it so I would act like I worked there and go over and ask how he liked the equipment, if he needed any help and if I could wrap it up for him. He always bugged right out. Now that guy didn't have 2 nickels to rub together, you could tell. I've been in the postion where I had no money so I understand where he's coming from, but it was so obnoxious I had to do do it. When I was poor I had enough manners to ask first and be friendly. This guy was neither. By the way, I also demoed gear for the store when the help was too busy. I'm sure those people eventually bought something so I did more than just run off potential customers. Anybody else had any experience with Guitar Resurrection?

I think both stances on the issue are completely valid. I've always learned that the more you talk to the owners and workers the more they understand what position you are in. I can walk in to a guitar center in north Houston and every worker knows my name and will do anything I ask. This is true for many of the places in Houston simply because I've been in and out over the years and they know I'm gonna spend money and I know what I'm talking about. In that since they don't bother.
The time that it had happened, it was my first time to walk in to guitar rez so I can say that to just anyone I guess I just looked like some kid holding a 3000 dollar guitar. But in any case I did pick up a 3000 dollar guitar and new exactly which amp I wanted to play it through. So it might have given some clue as to me knowing a little something about Guitars and equipment.
By the way what overdrives/ boosts/distortions are people using with the ray? I've got a fulldrive, had a blackstone, and was thinking about an ac/rc boost setup. maybe a zendrive which my other guitar player has actually had before but never played it on a ray.
I know there are tons of pedals out there that all sound great. I guess the fulldrive was the only pedal that just kinda stuck. It's kinda fizzy in the background though.

I owe you an explanation for my fuzzy post up there: The "HA!" indicated that I was attempting a joke. I should know by now that I am not funny. The smiley was to let you know it was meant in fun (that I meant you no harm), and the reference to "irony" was meant like, "If you didn't say something boneheaded or icy ON PURPOSE, then the negative karma may have been because of something that you might have said UNINTENTIONALLY, meaning, something you may have done without a clue. Hence, a negative karma for cluelessness, or not knowing that you ticked someone off (which would be ironic, because who would get a negative karma point for something that they didn't know had offended someone?) Does that clear it up for you?

That's a good apology. Posting can be difficult because there's no facial expression or body language, just the bare naked words. I don't know why jake has bad karma but his posts can seem negative. I'm sure he doesn't mean them to be but that's probably at least part of it. We need to try and be upbeat and congenial in our postings. Then people will give the benefit of the doubt.

Simple solution, now you are even....its a start over!!! Good job Fishman... now Jake, thats how it works. and I'll tell ya... I'm waiting for you to get the Ray and post and then I was probably gonna give you some karma.... NOT for a POSITIVE review... BUT for an HONEST review... if it's NOT what your looking for or what you expected then just explain WHY you DO or DON'T like it... just be nice about it and be HONEST... then you'll get Karma If you hang around the forum, you'll see how we react and respond to each other around here, very good folks and we treat each other AND DR Z with the respect he deserves... I also like that even though for the most part WE are biased towards ALL things DR Z... we like/ use other amps and respect other amp manufacturers.... there are other flavers, we just happen to really Like Docs ( we like the Doc's Z best)..... I'm really glad your about to get your RAY and I think your gonna like it, and I'm looking foward to hearing YOUR thoughts about it after you get it.... insert big smiley face as if it were a peace offering... we come in peace> ;D Jason

Sorry guys I guess I can come off as being rude or sarcastic sometimes. I do understand how it works around here now and would like to continue posting with honesty, flavor, and good nature. It's weird cause I'm usually not a punk in real life. And I didn't think I was making a seen here. But I truly appoligize to everyone and the Doc if my motives seem wrong. You won't here another negative or pushy peep out of me its not my nature.
Anywho, Kinda weird here I had a dream last night that I took a tour of the Z factory and at the end of the tour I got to meet the Dr. and who else walks out of the door than legendary car builder Chip Foose. Laugh if you feel the need but I don't know why... dreams are crazy

Tas: I've thought the same thing. I want to hear it. I'll resist it's siren call and not throw down more plastic though. I HATE debt so I can resist it but I'm very curious to check it out. If I can remember to bring my Drivetrain pedal I am going to a/b it with a Keeley Phat Mod BD-2 and hopefully an Xotic BB. They usually stock both so I want to see if either of those can shoot my old pedal out of the saddle for low gain overdrive. I wonder why this thread got so wide?

I've got it on good authority that I should get mine (blonde head and matching 2 x 10 cab) in mid June! I've already got my Studio Slips and beam blockers. I'm gonna be movin' and groovin' soon! Hey bill.... I just gotta tell ya, since I've got my Stingray I've been playing it usually and the last three gigs have been ALL RAY.... SO, Yesterday we played two gigs and I actually thought about you getting your Stingray while I was playing because I caught myself thinkin; MAN!! this thing sounds good and it was a big clean part of a song ( great song too, it was TAJ MAHAL's "Further on down the road") I was playin.... You just popped into my head while I was a playin and it made me smile cause I was thinkin you are gonna freakin love this amp when you get yours... then I snapped out of it cause I remembered I was supossed to be playing or something like that... lol can't wait till you get it and let us know what YOU think.... LOL! I should be seeing it this week. I'm playing Saturday night so I'll use it then. The only problem is the club is all glass, marble, wood paneling and high ceilings so we have to really hold it down. I'm also getting an Air Brake so I'm hoping I can set the volume on at least about 11:00 and use the Air Brake to knock it down to room friendly volume. On my Maz 38 I can only set the master on about 9:00 in that room so it is a tough one. I've thought I might bring my Ghia head too but I have some intros that are just vocals and guitar and they need to be squeaky clean so I don't know if the Ghia would cut it for that. No matter what it's going to be fun, I know!

hey do any of you guys have any idea about the shipping time for these amps? I really wish I had an exact date. If the amp was shipped thursday friday than it might be at the store tuesday wednesday maybe. The thing is I have to drive from Huntsville to Austin and pretty much make a day of it which means I have to get off work to do this. Hey billy might you have a clue when you are expecting yours?

Post by billyguitar on Jun 19, 2006 16:54:39 GMT -7
I don't really know. Doc said they were shipping last Thursday or Friday so I'm thinking they should only be about three days in transit, four at the most. So that would be sometime between Tuesday and Thursday, by my reckoning. If you really need to plan I would think the store should have access to tracking on the package. Of course that's still no guarantee either.
