I know the specs on the BL say 40 watts but does anybody know if it will handle 50 watts? I know docs stuff is built like a tank and may be rated a little conservative.

I think it really depends on how you use your amp. A guy who cranks everything to the max and then hammers the strings wide open all night with a 50 watt amp is likely to encounter problems once the BL heats up.
On the other hand, if you use your guitar volume all night to turn down for rhythm, turn up only for leads, etc, you might have a different experience. Of course the only way to know for sure is try it and keep your eyes open (and a hand on that thing to see if it's getting hot). Of course you have to buy one to do that test...

I found myself thinking the same thing last month. I decided to get an Airbrake instead for the higher wattage handling, and am so far quite pleased with it!

I use my BL stand alone with my EZG...no problems. But I don't run it wide open either. Had it cooking for several hours this past weekend for a practice session....EZG pre ~11, post ~2, BL on 4, pedals and gtr volume to taste.

That 40 watt rating is probably at full attenuation. If that indeed is the case then you won't have a problem if you only use the first couple of clicks.

Exactly. It's the power the attenuator bleeds off, not the power of the amp.
