Hey everyone- This is my first post, and I am glad I found this forum....it is really great to see how many people enjoy these amps as much as I do. This is my 6545. I am a bass player and in 2006 I was playing a gig and my amp went out (an ampeg classic - kinda the standard bass amp). My roommate who is a guitar player said I could borrow his amp, and I thought it was better than nothing, so I took him up on it. I set my rig up with the 6545 on it, turned it on, and was blown away by how great the bass tone was. I had to have it, so after that gig I bought it from him. Since then I have played every show (except ones that were backlined) with this amp, with an exception of the year 2008....in which I sold it back to the original owner (I needed the money really bad). Unfortunately in his ownership the emblem came off and he put his name in house letters on the front of it. She is missing the back grill, and has her fair share of bumps and bruises, but she has never let me down....so yes these amps are amazing, but they also hold up. I tried to go back and count the number of gigs since 2006 and it has to be well over 1000....until 2013 I was playing at least 200 shows a year. This amp has played dive bars all the way up to arenas and back down to churches and private parties....literally. Many of the bigger shows I have pulled the backline bass head off to use this one. That being said, here is the last amp I will ever own unless Dr. Z comes out with a bass amp, then I hope to be first in line. Also if anyone knows how to get a replacement emblem and a back grill, I would love to bring this amp back to the way it should look.

Awesome report! Never heard of anyone using this amp for Bass, but it doesn't surprise me that it sounds good.
BTW, welcome to Z-Talk!

Yeah, it really is awesome. I play through an Orange 4X10 cabinet and play a 1997 Precision Bass Deluxe most of the time.

Cool. This is what my 6545 looked like back when I had it - minus the Photoshopping.

Welcome. Do you use both sides of the 6545 for bass? You could try contacting Dr Z regarding the Z symbol and the back grill: repairs@drzamps.com. After you've been a member for 30 days, you can get access to post in the Buy, Sell, Trade (BST) section. Might be a loose "Z" out there. Another alternative is to get a handcrafted Z from Harvey (Reams), a long-time member here who does outstanding work. Here's a link to his profile ztalk.proboards.com/user/1006. He's got information about his products in the links in his signature section.

As the above mentioned I contacted repairs with an included picture of my z- best cabinet and explanation as to how I was missing the emblem. Within an hour or two I had full instruction as to how to purchase my replacement emblem. A few days later I had the replacement. Your testimony to the durability, versatility and quality of the Z product is something to make all Z owners proud.

Wow, man--great story to go with your first post! I'd like to think Doc could "reward" your 1000 gigs by putting a new "Z" in the mail? A little "clear silicone adhesive" from the hardware store and she'll be as good as new!
Looks like you've got the footswitch (channel switcher) permanently mounted inside the head shell? Good idea--I imagine that's so you'll never lose it or have to worry about it?
Regarding Dr. Z ever building a bass amp--have you ever played through a Delta 88? Well, you should...

I would say I probably use the 45 side more often though...I am not a technical guy, so I can't explain why, I just am able to get better sounds there. Thanks for the info on gettin in touch with the repair department. Never occured to me. I look forward to seeing what pops up on the Buy, Sell, Trade section as well.

BTW - this amp sounds amazing with guitars as well. Yes it does! I have used it in the studio as a guitar head on some recording projects. Its fun when you can use one head to record both bass and guitars and get really great sounds with both. Sure beats hauling around a big ol bulky bass rig!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, it is kinda a cool story. Like I said, I fell into using it and never looked back. Unfortunately I did sell it to a friend during some hard times, but he let me buy it back later and didnt even charge me more! I do have the footswitch mounted inside to switch channels, and I did that after I lost about three of them! Now at a gig, depending on the music, I will dial in bot channels and if I need to switch between songs, I can run back there and change it. I have never played a Delta 88, I know that is the highest wattage Z out there, and I would love to have that opportunity....I never have even seen one in real life. I am new to the boards, but I wonder if Z will ever churn out a bass head. I would love that...but then again everybody would buy them and my bass rig would no longer be an anomaly!

I am not sure I know how to put up sound bites....I have some recordings online and live stuff on youtube...however dont want to break any rules....
For all you Z fanatics, you may be disappointed, because it would be just the bass parts which are often times the least spectacular!

I have learned more about the innards of music from bass players than from any of the other guys I've played with. Maybe they were all lame, but dang, the bass is the catcher of music - they run the whole game. Oh yeah - when you do a post, if you use the Reply button, you get a toolbar with icons for insert image or insert video. If you use Quick Reply, you don't get that stuff. The images or videos have to be hosted elsewhere (like YouTube) but other than that it's painless. My favorite 6545 clip: Money for Nothing

welcome jackdoyle!! I have always wandered why the DR, hasn't made a BASS AMP! His Guitar amps, Reverb Unit and all of his other products KILL IT!!! with Days and Days of not only TONE, But they are Built by HAND, PASSION, HEART AND SOUL! RIGHT IN THE GOOD OLE TOWN OF MAPLE HEIGHTS, OH Just a fine group he has and I hope it remains that way. Service is #1 with DRZ AMPS, like you would expect but is darn near non existent in todays "got to make a BUCK" world, I have one of his amps that's going on 21 Yrs old, Its The SRZ, 1/2 of what you're using and while I haven't hit 1000 Gigs with that amp it has played a bunch and has never failed, still retains all the OEM COMPONENTS and sounds amazing! Keep Rocking w DRZ!
