I've really been gigging my Carmen Ghia a lot here lately but I'm looking at going higher wattage for bigger venues and outdoor gigs. I've had the Zwreck and a Mazerati years ago but too far apart from each other to have a valid comparison. Those of you with both or that have compared the two, which one has the most headroom?
I want to say the Mazerati does but my Wreck was pretty loud before breakup occurred. I play single coils mostly - tele and strat style guitars.

I haven't played a Wreck but do play a Rati v2 and a KT45. If you want really clean AND really loud, the KT stays clean way up the knobs and is much cleaner side by side than the Rati, though it's a different sound, albeit good, because of the ef86 front end and the EL34 power.

I have both and I would have to say the Mazerati (v2) has slightly more headroom. Both amps will start to break up around noon, depending on how hot your pickups are. I think the Z Wreck gives up the goods sooner tho. Both are really loud amps so to get to breakup territory you are pushing some serious DB's. I believe the Mazerati is 35 watts and the Z Wreck is 30 so that would explain it. Some guys swap a 5751 for V1 for even more headroom on the Mazerati so that is an option if you go that route as well. If you are near Chicago you are welcome to come try them out.

Yeah I could see that given the slight wattage difference. Thanks for the info and thanks for the offer, If I lived closer I most certainly would!

From what I remember about my Zwreck, the Mazerati does seem to have slightly more headroom. I could even get a touch more with a lower gain tube in V1 I'm sure. But I think it's great as is! Loving the Mazerati!

I also own a V2 Rati and a Zwreck, the rati definitely has more headroom. I'm also using a NOS 5751 in the PI, to keep it clean like Bryan mentioned.
