I've been blessed substantially lately and have had the opportunity to go through several pieces of Z gear, owning and operating, and wound up narrowing it all down to a Maz 18 Jr. head and a matching Mather convertible 1x12 with a Weber Alnico Blue Dog 50 watt speaker. Yum, Yum!!! I'm loving it. However....... the fever caught up with me and I purchased a Remedy head, new model, PPIMV, Tone Bypass, it should arrive next week. I'm already getting ahead of myself.
I would welcome advice on:
Speaker choice (I already own a Weber built Reinhardt version 1265, a hemp ceramic Silver Bell 65 watt, and a above mentioned Alnico Blue Dog
Cabinet choice (All I own at the moment is the Mather convertible at the moment) footnote: I've developed an aversion to anything larger and heavier than a 1x12 cabinet. Currently there's a forum ad for Stagecraft 1x12 Black Jack and Blues Jack closed back 1x12s, all have the Marshall "motif" thing going on. Specifically I'm wondering if I should be thinking closed back or open/convertible.
Control settings - Like many of us, I'm heavily influenced by the Ford/Carlton/Trucks/Haynes/any Steel Dan record thing and I'm confident the Remedy will tear any of that up. I'd welcome any truly versatile settings that seem to hit all the targets.
Drive Pedals - I currently have a Rockett Animal and Chicken Soup, and a Mad Prof Royal Blue and SHOD. At the moment, the Mad Prof pedals seem to be working better with the Maz than the Rockett pedals. One quality I totally love about the Mad Prof pedals is that they love guitar volume control manipulation as well as varying pick attack. They work like a good amp, so they marry up well with the Maz.
Sorry this is so long, I welcome any advice you guys have!!!

Closed back cabinet with a Celestion creamback(m). As far as settings go, I have a non master volume version so my favorite settings probably would not apply. I prefer the overdrive of the remedy over any pedal that I've tried so that's the route that I go. Congrats on the remedy, I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Depending on where you are allowed to open this baby up, your settings will change when you click from 20 watts to 40 watts. Either way you can achieve "Humble Pie - Live at the Fillmore"easily.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new amp!

I've had my Remedy for three full days. Every day, I love it more. I will be trying different speakers (I use vintage celestion and cerwin vega speakers with my plexi and hiwatt amps), and I'm a usual proponent of open-back cabs, but so far my Remedy sounds great with a stock Z-Best 2x12 closed back. As for settings, I'm still monkeying with the knobs and have the Les Paul sounding beautiful. I can post my tone and mix ratio settings to you later this morning, but they are understandably set for my ears. Everybody has their own sense of hearing, and trust me - it changes with age. My hearing likes less bass, more midrange, and treble somewhere between the two.
Hope you love your Remedy. I love mine. Great grind on its own, and pedals sound great as well.

My hearing likes less bass, more midrange, and treble somewhere between the two. Hope you love your Remedy. I love mine. Great grind on its own, and pedals sound great as well. Here's my settings for the vintage classic Marshall tone with humbuckers: (I used to have a 1971 4 input 100 watt marshall w 4x12 matching cabinet w 1971 greenbacks...glorious tone..but TOO LOUD!) Bass volume: OFF (yes, off!) Treble volume: about 1-3:00 Bass: About 9 mid: noon to 2:00 Treble: Below noon...this is important as you don't have the bass volume on at ALL. If you run the treble past noon with this setting, it will start to sound too brittle. I'd go for somewhere between 10-12. This will give you that crunchy classic rock tone. Another hint: set the amp volume knob (again, treble only) to a level that just screams lead solo. Not Mesa overdrive, but a good lead overdrive, then use guitar volume knob for cleaning up from there. And the Z best isn't a closed back..it's ported. And if you REALLY want that vintage tone...get a closed back cabinet and put greenbacks (or clones) in there.

Well, I finally got to gig with it with some good volume, really pushed the tubes, played at 20 and later at 40 watts. I'm using a Rockett Animal and a Mad Prof SHOD most of the time, and an Xotic EP Booster for lead boost and by itself for dirty funky rhythms. Played an Agile AS1000 with Ian Anderson PAFs and a BCS vintage spec wiring harness. Cabinet was a Mather convertible back with a Weber Alnico Blue Dog 50 watt.
Okay, man oh man oh man, this was the most fun I've ever had playing live. The band is rhythm and blues based with nearly every song reinterpreted by the band, lots of comping, lots of solos, lots of slide, I was so inspired and this put such a beat down on almost everything else I've used live, I was hearing like "man did you get some lessons recently or something". The amp just raised my game and my feeling for what I was playing tremendously.
Can't say enough about the Remedy head, it's a winner.

The Animal pairs real nicely with the Remedy, whether it's single coils or humbuckers. Now what you have to look forward to is 40 watts! I've only been able to play mine at 40, but stand back when you do - serious OOOOMPH coming from that cab.
Congrats again on your purchase!
