Hey everyone. One of my tube damper o rings broke, so I am wondering what dampers Z uses for the EL84s in my Carmen Ghia and where can I get some more? Thanks

What exactly do tube dampeners do? Are they only for loud volume? How are they different from aluminum tube covers (not sure what they do)? Thanks

Thanks They prevent audible tube rattle by absorbing the vibrations. You don't necessarily have to be playing loud for the tubes to rattle. In fact, I usually only noticed the rattles at lower volumes. Ya, what do the aluminum preamp tube covers do?

I've always thought that those covers were to shield the tubes from RF but I have played many amps both with them on and off and couldn't tell any difference.

The aluminum covers are spring loaded to keep the tube firmly seated. Might be important in a combo setup where the tubes are hanging from their pins.

I've seen them in amps that have the tubes upright as well as inverted. Small nine-pin tubes don't need retainers like larger octal tubes do.
