Well after much debate I picked up a Z28 1x12 combo. First impressions: it's like the M12 and Route 66 hooked up and made this baby. Has a lot of the girth and thicker tone of the Route, and some of the highs of the M12, albeit more bell than chime, and without its anemic tone. Snappy, punchy, great cleans, gets right filthy, takes pedals well, and damn loud! Seems like everything I wanted...gonna need a Brake Lite though at some point. I tried it through my 2x12 cab which is also greenbacks...not sure I noticed much difference compared to Docs giant combo cab. Would love to hear it with a gold!
So, I got a really decent deal on this combo because it had been sitting around for a LONG time and all the original tubes are gone. So, what's a good tube complement for it? It has Groove Tubes in the power and rec spots; they're garbage and will be the first to go...it has a 5751 instead of the 12AX7, not sure what brand it is, just says USA near the top...that probably needs swapping and I have a Tung Sol I can put in. The EF86 is an EHX...any good?

Best new mfg bang for the buck tube compliment: Tung Sol Ri 6V6s, a Sovtek 5AR4 rectifier tube, a Tung Sol EF86 Gold Pin and I run a GE JAN/NOS 5751 because they aren't super expensive. Currently I have RCA 6V6s in mine, but the Tung Sols are good. I spent big bucks on NOS EF86s twice only for them to go microphonic after 6 months or so. The new Tung Sol is a good one which has been fine for 18 months so far. I prefer the 5751 in the Z28

Ya after some back and forth with the 12AX7 and the 5751 the latter is much nicer. The 5751 brightens up the amp and gives it a nicer top end. I just wish I could figure out what it is...when I Google pictures of 5751 tubes it looks like an RCA, but the logo in the middle is gone.
