I apologize since this seems like a ridiculous "problem", but I have a Maz. Jr NR combo and a Maz. Jr NR head/cab currently in my care. I'm trying to change the tubes, but on BOTH of the amps after I take out the 4 main screws that certainly appear to be guarding clear access to the tubes, I just can't pull that sucker off. I feel like I need to pry it off with a tool or something, but I don't want to resort to that for obvious reasons. I probably just need to pull real hard, but before I start using brute strength against it, I wanted to check here first..... ?

It'll come off. Give it a thunk from behind.

Also make sure the screws are ALL THE WAY OUT!! Don't ask me how I know. But as Eric said, just give it a hard whack. I have the same issue with my newer Z cabs.
Also, welcome to the forum!

You would be wise to tap a putty knife between the two parts. Go easy. I've accidentally dislodged the backing plate from its dado on the cabinet by just yanking (had to reglue it into the cabinet).

Thanks guys, I was able to get it off! Next question... how necessary are the orange rings around the power tubes? The ones I took out were pretty much shot. Do I need to replace those?

I see that you have a head as well as a combo. I never used them on any head that I had (with the exception of an EF86) and used them off and on in a Maz38 combo I had. I used them in the combo to help with tube rattle since they are so close to the speaker. You can try the amp with out them and see if there is a difference, but you can also buy new ones from a few places. Just do a search on "tube dampers" and see what comes up.

One helpful hint: these back panels will re-glue themselves back to the cabinet again due to heat and time. They can present the same problem all over again. It will greatly aide future removal if you remove the panel again since it's now loose and place a strip of masking tape on the contact surfaces. You'll be glad you did.
