I'm sick with Z-deprivation. I had immediately dismissed the Antidote because of its higher wattage, but listening to some clips, man does it sound sweet! The description on the Z page "The addictive blend of bell-like high end shimmer and thick punchy lows" again, sounds like what I'm after. Can this beast be tamed I wonder?!? I'm no stranger to using high wattage amps at home, but I also don't want my head to explode...so, there's that to consider.

They all sound glorious when I read about them too...

The Air Brake works very well with the Antidote. Brake Lite will work also, but the Air Brake has the variable "bedroom" feature. It's still pretty darn loud when in modern mode with eq bypassed. I got to run it unleashed at the recent Z Fest. What a treat.

Use an Airbrake and all is good... It kicks like a mule but can be tamed. I love all my Z's but my Dote has it's own voice, it really is amazing to play through!

Get one. You will not regret That is NOT what I need. Can anyone compare the Antidote to the Z28? I'm heavily considering them both...

I haven't had the Z-28 set up for a while, but my recollection is that it's very "tweedy" even when you go into 3-3-3 territory, getting that early Marshall vibe. The early Marshalls were, I think, based on the Bassman circuit with components that were available in the UK substituted in. The Antidote sounds more like a subsequent stage of the Marshall line, mid to late 60s, early 70s.
There's a chime/extended top end in the Antidote that the Z-28 does not share.
Both are fine amps. I know it's hard to find dealers with enough Zs to do a comparison, but if you could, you should.

I'm not sure I'd want to get kicked in my big boy pants....but I love this video. This video nails the sound I get from my Dote FWIW. Speakers can alter the sound somewhat. I think the Antidote cleans are the most underrated side of this amp. You can play many styles with this amp not just 70's rock and Clapton. Very touch sensitive, this amp responds so well to your GV.

One of the things I'm worried about with this amp is the top end. I'm using a Traynor YBA-1 right now, which is also a JTM45/Bassman type amp and it's frustrating. One channel is very bassy and clean, the other very trebley and gainy...there's really no nice balanced cleans to be had.
I suspect this wouldn't ba an issue with the Z...but it's a concern.
The other concern of course is volume. The YBA has a built in attenuator, I barely ever take it off 5 watts...40 is deafening. So I'd have to factor in the cost of an attenuator I guess.
I think the Antidote might be out of the running for me just because of the cost. I'm thinking Antidote, Z28, or Therapy. The Antidote is the most expensive of the 3 already by a few hundred, and it's the only one I'd definitely need the attenuator for so that's a few more bills. I'll still try it out when I can...never know, it may blow my mind!

All 3 amps are awesome. The dote is loud...you can do a search here and read how some of the brosthers use a RC booster pedal Volume to control the Dote's volume...sorta like a master V. The Dote its well balanced and you can mix the the volume control to expand your sonic field

Revisiting this decision again. I had the Z28, very briefly, just couldn't bond with it and wound up returning it. I always like more American voiced amps in theory, but they never do it for me. A dote popped up on craigslist and got me thinking about it again...might be worth trying as long as I employ some method to cut the volume.
My search continues...
