Hey folks, long time lurker, first time poster here. Anybody have experience using the new Z Drive against a BB Preamp? Right now, I'm using a BB Preamp Comp for multiple applications. Live, I run the Maz 38 in stereo with a Mesa F50 and use the BB as a clean boost (the onboard boost with the F50 is great, but too Rectifier-y for my tastes). Sometimes, when I don't want to lug two amps around, I'll bring just the Maz and dial in the BB to provide all of my drive when needed. Even at home, I can run my Maz with the Brake Light on four, volume low, MV dimed, gain on the BB dimed and volume on the BB around 9 o'clock and get some nice drive without blowing my eardrums or ticking off the neighbors. I'm thinking the Z Drive can do all of this and even more, however, I'm out of room on my pedal board, and I know if I just buy a bigger board, I'll just end up buying more pedals.

First off......welcome to the forum! Great guys and lots of good info here.
I have the ZD as well as an early model BB and a later model BB. The ZD, IMO, is more transparant than either version of the BB.....although the BB is one of my favorite OD's. The ZD can do the clean boost very well, and you still have the 2nd channel on it to dial in some pretty good gain if you want it. Highly recommended!

Thanks, gents. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on one. Sometimes, all those knobs and switches scare the hell out of me...

But in Z-Drive case, nothing complicate or tricky. Very simple, usable controls! And to ensure the question (if I don't have my BB Preamp anymore), I find the Z-Drive to be way more polyvalent. You can nail the nasal BB thing quite well, and so much more! Only "problem" I had until now is a little bit of white noise when the Z-Drive comes after my Rocket Archer iKon (even when the ikon is off - I guess Z-Drive doesn't like its buffer).

What a pleasant surprise. My Z Drive arrived today, a full 4 days before it was scheduled. How is that possible??? I'm leaving town tomorrow morning, but in the few moments I have had to play with it, I can already tell this pedal is going to be a keeper. I didn't realize how much the BB was constricting the Maz, even on the no-Comp setting. The Z Drive lets the amp breathe like a champ, on top of giving you two different gain stages. I can easily see myself dialing in the Maz for clean rhythm, using the green channel for dirty rhythm and the red channel for higher gain leads and extra dirt. Can't wait to gig with this bad boy on the board!!!

what I like most about it is...its like having a 3 channel amp now with my Z WRECK, plus if you use your volume knob a lot its even better, this is usually the way i have been using it along with a Z VERB...the Tone is just how I like it...cheers!
