Just had a good practice with my studio/nr and fender/fvr reverb...tele...man what tone...sweet vibrant tone...just had to blab a little.
Feel fortunate enough to have the two maz/18...the bag is getting emptier though...and we all know what that means...crunch

Just played my MAZ Jr. this evening through a Scumback J75 1×12. I switched up the guitars and it sounded just as great with all 3...Strat, Tele, and Les Paul. Could be a "desert island amp," if only your island had electricity.

I don't think one can find a better package than the Maz 18!

Sometimes I want more clean headroom... then I hear how it breaks up just a little... then I don't want more clean headroom anymore.

I love how the amp responds to your playing. Even driven, picking lightly then digging in gives you such a range of tones.
As for the desert island having electricity, if the Professor can make a radio out of a coconut I think I could make something happen.

You guys are killing me...I've just tonight allowed myself to start reading the Maz 18 part of the forum, and I'm really starting to GAS for an 18NR. I've got a Maz 8 that I really love but I always want a little 'more' in terms of gain and authority. How similar is the 8 to the 18?

Dave, try a clean boost in the effects loop for a little extra umph... I haven't tried it yet but maybe someone can chime in.

Overall I think the Maz18 - both versions - are the best gigging amps ever made. Incredibly versatile , reliable and great sounding amps.

From what I hear...the 8 and 18 are not really that close...I will say that the reverb model is to my ears is a sweeter sounding amp...a little less forward sounding as the nr studio I have...love both...but reg/cab/reverb has all the tone bases covered...fwiw...

I think I'm going to be adding an 18NR to my arsenal as well. I have the 38NR and I'd like a little more gain at usable volumes. The 38NR is so sweet, though, I'll probably keep that as well...

Mark, I was just looking into speakers and specifically the Scumbacks. I have a 2 x 12 cabinet that I am going share with my Maz Jr and 1974x. They recommended the M55 and M75. I have a couple C Alnico Cream speakers in 112's and they are great. How did you arrive at your Scumback selection for the Maz 18?

How did you arrive at your Scumback selection for the Maz 18? Trial and error... Seriously, I've probably run the MAZ Jr. through over a dozen different 1x12 speakers by now. I A/B 'em, see which one I like better, and then A/B that one against more competition. For my playing style, etc., the Scumback J75 in a 1x12 open-back just seems to do everything extremely well. Other notable great pairings I've identified are the Weber 30W alnico Blue Dog, WGS Green Beret, and even the Tone Tubby red alnico. This amp plays well with a lot of different speakers.
