Well, yesterday, I finally got everything back to the house: Therapy head, 1x12 cab, cables, etc. took the cab and put in a Celestion Alnico Cream and fired her up. Had my Huber Krautster II give it a run. Took a few minutes to dial in a good clean tone and I was off to the races. This thing has that clear, firm cleans I was always looking for out of other amps (el84s which is probably not fair...). Really full, some warmth and a hint of chime coming with my humbuckers. Definitely had some cool OD tones on its own as well. Very impressed... What I really like is the touch of sag, not as immediate as some of my other amps I have used. It just feels right in my hands and for how I play. Love that touch of forgiveness.
then in I plugged in my Strat. HOLY COW! I either think this amp ws made for a strat, or I'm just becoming a strat/single coil guy. The it was. That nice, bright, but not ice picky, clean tone. Tone for days. Neck pick up was bold and glorious. All the in between quack settings were awesome. Immediately pulled out the delay, and got some cool U2 type ambient tones. Then, and THEN, I plugged some fuzz in (pedal board is torn up as I'm getting more cables so I was limited at what I could throw at this thing). Wow, this thing inhales fuzz from what I can tell. Great responsiveness with my volume knob, and I was using a Muff!!
Anyway, I think I am going to really love this amp. I'll put it through the band stuff in a couple weeks as school gets settled in and my band mates can grab some time together. Really, really thankful for the help from everyone here. I haven't had a 6L6 amp in a long time, and maybe this is where my head is for what I like. I know I'll get an el84 amp in the future but for now, this Therapy with a Cream Alnico is glorious.
