Hey Tube Gurus - I need help with some recently acquired vintage tubes. I raided an old 1956/57 Silvertone radio/record player cabinet that was on it's way to the trash heap. I pulled all of the tubes and the 12" Quan/Nichols alnico speaker (it's 6 ohms so I haven't tried it). Most of the pre amp tubes are odd ball types. The power tubes are Cornell 6v6GT's. The rectifier is a Philco 5Y4GT. Only two of the tubes are really of interest...a Silvertone labeled 12ax7 and a Sylvania 12au7a. The Sylvania is clearly marked. The Silvertone has had almost all of the writing rubbed off. I know it is a 12ax7, that's clearly stamped. My question is who manufactured it. I have read quite a few posts on the interwebs but haven't found anything helpful. Some say it may be a Phillips, others say it may be of Japanese origin. I've searched the entire tube with a magnifying glass for other markings and can see nothing. It looks to have a short plate and also has an angled, square getter. My knowledge is very limited though, so I could be completely wrong. Ideally I'd like to throw both of these in the V1 of my Ghia and see what they sound like. I thought it would be prudent to ask if that would be OK first though... Here's some photos - Here are the others just for kicks... Thanks in advance for any insight! Robert

On that Silvertone 12ax7, after seeing the "ladder" plates, I was going all RCA, until I saw the getter. Usually RCA's from the mid 50's have a halo getter. It might be a GE. I'll do some digging thru my stash....

I was gonna say RCA judging from the way it's stamped , but the getter threw me too. BTW- It can't hurt anything to try them in your amps V1 spot.
