OK, so I've been meaning to get a pic of my Stingray on the board, so here it is. The serial number is 002 it was sent over to GT for us to check out and it arrived the day before Brad Paisley showed up for a photo shoot. This is the amp you see Brad playing through on Myles' website. The front panel is some freaky Italian veneer for Kitchen cabinets. I think it's one of the prototypes. It sounds amazing. Myles and I put an NOS 5751 in the pre-amp section and it turned into a Blues monster. If you can get your hands on a Stingray (or Manta-ray), Do it!!! This is the most amazing amp I have ever owned and I am way past the honeymoon period. The other amp is a Fargen Blackbird which, by the way is for sale right now (go look on the Buy, Sell, Trade board.) i40.photobucket.com/albums/e228/tubegeek/samsamps.jpg

Nice Stingray Sam! My Stingray combo is a #2 as well. Must be the second combo built. Love the crazy italian veneer.

Thanks guys, Hey Aruntang, Have you tried playing with different pre-amp tubes yet. A 7025 also sound really good in the Stingray. You should try that and a 5751. It's amazing how you can change the character of the amp for just 20 bucks. Also, here is another pic. Sonicbluepaisley will dig this one. i40.photobucket.com/albums/e228/tubegeek/BRAD_STINGRAY21.jpg

sama, That Stingray is COOL... guess I need to try the 5751 and I'd like to try a NOS mullard EF 86 in mine... sama, which EF 86 have you prefered so far??? my head is #6 looks like yours but is blonde and has a plain ole black front instead of the crazy "black n white TV rolling picture distortion" on the front.... that is way cool... BTW... Aruntang I've been playin mine since I got it and I was a Maz 38 / Prescription kinda guy..... BUT I think I'm heading towards being a Maz 38 / STINGRAY kinda guy now..... I think we're heading down the same / similar direction amp wise... I love the RX's but man...the Stingray is AWESOME, knocked my RX's down a spot in the order of my favorites!!! Jason

Jason, I am so on your wave length man. I played my Stingray for three hours straight today! It is the best amp I have ever owned. Can't wait for the MA38 to be in stereo with the Ray. I actually have the Mullard and the GEC EF86 tubes and ended up liking the Dario better. I did like the GEC as well but it changes the amp a lot to my ears. Let me explain. I posted this in the Z-28 section:
The Dario had the best of the GEC and the mullard. The mullard had a lot of sparkle but seemed to be a little gritty compared to the Dario. While the GEC gave the least sparkle and the most hifi, big, clean sound. The Dario fits right in between the two. I see why the Doc really likes these. Now that does not mean the mullard adds a lot of gain or something or is lo-fi. It just seemed to have the most 'vintage' or looser sound of the three. The GEC made the amp sound big with lots of clarity and a defined bottom end, like I was playing my old 64 twin reverb. It also seemed to be a little louder because of that tube. The Dario had the perfect blend of clarity and sparkle while sounding big but not too big. I could see using all three depending on the application. I still got some more experimenting to do. I basically tried the tubes out with the amp set clean and with the guitar plugged straight in with no effects. I would like to see how each tube handles higher volumes and effects. I will say this though, the GEC sounded great with the strat, but the Dario sounded the best with the Tele so far. Still it is hard to choose because they all have their merits and work differently under different circumstances. I did love how big the GEC made the stingray sound. The Stingray responds to tube changes way more than the RXES did. I am quite impressed. ;D

Hey Jason, I have not messed with EF86s yet. I know Myles has and posted some stuff about EF86s in the Stingray some where on the forum.
Aruntang, Yes I put the 5751 in the Phase inverter section. Also, Get your hands on a Matched phase inverter it makes all the difference in the world. Feel free to call me at Groove Tubes any time 818-361-4500.
